Classic Rock Bottom

It is Time!
I've been thinking about doing this for years, and the fact that Elvis Presley's birthday was Jan. 8th and James Dean's is Feb. 8th signaled to me that this was the time.
So this week and next, it's Rebels!
Those sometimes wonderful folks who shake up the Status Quo!
I recently mentioned on the show that I am the rebellious type- a  balky, defiant,  insubordinate, intractable, recalcitrant, unruly, willful (get the point yet, lol?) smartass.
Shortly into this first episode, I will have the musical answer to whether that is indeed true or not.
Join me for a good long Rock & Roll look at those Lovable Groundbreakers and Contrarians.

Jon, wait until you hear what I play by James Dean from "Rebel Without A Cause" next week, and then tell me he wasn't angry in it!

Grab your rocket and keep yourself together, lol!

Oh. But a rebel doesn't have to be angry.  James Dean wasn't angry in "Rebel Without A Cause".....this is tearing me apppppppppppppaaaaaarrrrrrttttttttttt!

Jon,
Hey you slacker, you are usually the first to comment- I was waiting for you, lol!
Yes I am a Rebel.
And that rocket in my pocket...well...some people might call it that...it does go off, lol!
Glad West Side Story got a positive reaction from you.
I was talking to Elvis the other night and he doesn't like YOU either!
Jonny...Jonny...the song is called ANGRY YOUNG MAN!
Rebels are usually angry about something!
That's I guess what you missed.
Good you enjoyed it, it was fun for me to do.
I would figure you for a Rebel, at least here at Classic Rock Bottom- you go against the grain a lot
Too bad you don't a rocket in your pocket though.
Although I don't think you should ever have "a rocket in my pocket" and the initials "BJ" in the same comments, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing Rocket Man,
Mike

Well...you're a rebel? with a rocket in your pocket?

Classic that you included a song from "West Side Story". It made me laugh. It also made me forget about Elvis! Yay!

What made that BJ song so rebellious? What did I miss. Other than Elvis, I actuall enjoyed this, even The Crystals. Maybe I'm a rebel? Without a rocket in my pocket though....

RJ,
AHA, surprise is my middle name, lol!
Although I am sure everybody expected I would play the no-brainer by David Bowie.
I started out thinking I was gonna play Rebels by Petty, but I'll tell you what happened.
Might still play it, since I have another show coming, but I don't think so.
I thought that opening was killer with Elvis, and it was such a joy to see him in that Comeback special.
That one that didn't move you (and bear in mind, it was only your first listen) was I Was The Rebel, She Was The Cause by Eric Andersen, from an old scratchy album as you may have noticed.
The Golden Pell to The Crystals for He's A Rebel is a great pick!
And I didn't know they were singing to me until my friends pointed it out, lol!
That true story was what prompted the next 3 songs.
Since I was seemingly a Rebel at such an early age, my Billy Joel pick was for that.
Plus, since I said I felt surprised but very cool about being considered a Rebel by my pals back then, I thought of Cool from West Side Story.
And finally, I quickly changed my mind with Petty, thinking Into The Great Wide Open and being A Rebel Without A Clue was far more fitting for me back in those days, lol!
So you see, all 3 those of last songs came out of that story I told- my using Music to send different Western Union messages!
What you're expecting...we SHALL see...and hear, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, hope you enjoy the lots to come,
Mike

You surprised me at the end there.  I was expecting Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers, but I was expecting Rebels off of Southern Accents.  Of course, you may still play it, knowing you.

The opener was fantastic.  I still say that Elvis had the most pleasing voice ever.  What a great performer.

David Bowie was a given, but you also surprised me with Billy Joel.  Very nice pick.

There was only 3 songs that were new to me, and two of 'em didn't move me (can't remember the artists, but it was song number 3 and the West Side Story song.  That leaves only one possibility for the Golden Pell, and it goes to The Crystals for He's A Rebel.  I bet you thought they were singing that directly to you, didn't you?

I'm still expecting some Billy Idol and maybe even some Bad Company.  We shall see.
