ROCKOLLECTIONS: SUMMER LOLLAPALOOZA PT.2

Picking up where we left off in that scorching Summer of ‘06, we continue with Long Hot Summer music.
Then we have 2 songs I have always felt went together.
But it wasn’t until I actually played them back to back, that I realized how astonishingly similar they are stylistically, musically, and vocally.
If that’s not enough, they both have two-word titles- and share the first word!
Weird! FLYING MONKEY WEIRD!!!
We end this episode with 2 versions of a summer staple, a Gershwin tune that you wouldn’t expect Rockers to do in the first place, but has been done by so many of them- quite a few I have played over the years, and some will be mentioned.
This time, one smooth soul, and the other cool jazz.
Hope you like this episode as much as I do, we may have accidentally got it right, lol.
2 more Summer chapters coming.
Keep your pants on!
On second thought, in the heat of Summer...take ‘em off!

If you do, enjoy it.  And go somewhere cool (which would not include Georgia, cause it's hot, hot, hot here).  That makes me think of the Robin Williams movie Good Morning Vietnam when he's talking about how hot it is.

RJ,
Oh man, that Kinks song is one of my favorites by them.
You sir, have missed the boat...it's got it ALL, lol!
I had brought that Miles Davis version of Summertime in with me, and I know what you mean, I can see that being used in a movie on a "hot summer day" in the city too.
What I didn't know was that Engineer Ken was going to slip it in on me at the end of the show without telling me- so you can hear some surprise, then I thought I'd just play along with it, lol!
That Lighthouse song, Sunny Days, is just one of numerous GREAT tunes they did over the years.
We talked about them recently as my favorite Canadian band, remember?
There they are!
The Golden Pell awarded to Sam Cooke.
The man had a voice smooth as silk.
You can never go wrong with him...it's like giving it to Elvis or the Beatles, lol!
So nice choice for you too.
That Hendrix tune, I remember I hadn't played it in a long time- nothing too flashy about it, just Hendrix as I like him.
Thanks for the listen and writing, I may put a bunch of shows up and then go away for vacation,
Mike

There are 3 contenders for the Golden Pell today.

But first, The Kinks were okay.  Usually when you play a song by the Kinks, I like it.  This one was just okay.  And that laid back Miles Davis tune actually worked good for me.  I can see that being used in a movie on a "hot summer day" in the city, as people move about.

The Golden Pell came down to Glenn Frey (Long Hot Summer), Light House (Sunny Days) and Sam Cooke (I think it was called Summertime).  And although my first thought was to give it to Frey, my final decision sees it awarded to Sam Cooke.  That is smooth right there.  Nice choice.

Oh yeah, the Hendrix tune wasn't bad either.
