ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE BRITISH INVASION PT.3

As I write this, 50 years ago tonight, Feb. 9th 1964, the Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
I watched it as a kid, and it's an odd feeling knowing what you did PRECISELY on a given date a half century ago!
In fact, it's never happened before.
As I recall, it was the first of 3 consecutive weeks of appearances for those guys from Liverpool on the Sullivan show.
And I see CBS has the good sense to have a special on tonight honoring that grand moment in Musical History.
The blurb for tonight's show says, "The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles"- it also says "Popular artists perform Beatles songs".
I'll watch it, but those two things give me pause- that the GRAMMYS have anything to do with it, and those "Popular artists" may mangle the songs like an aural equivalent to the Beatles' BUTCHER album cover!
Time will tell whether I enjoy it or roll my eyes and take something for an upset stomach, lol!
That being said, I'll continue here with some more of the Original Artists who made their contributions to the British Invasion of 50 Years ago.
No matter what I see tonight, these cannot be improved on.
Enjoy the Music...it's History now, lol!

No chance of that happening to me, although a window blew in during Hurricane Sandy.

Thursday the snow was piled halfway up my window, giving a strange feeling, almost claustrophobic.

But that's rough man, a hole in the ceiling...letting in the snow and especially the cold!

And on top of that, no power.

Hang in there my friend, it will a fond memory during the sweltering summer!

Got a tree limb through the roof of the bedroom this morning.  This place is wacky.  No power last night.

RJ,
Not a battle between Donovan and The Animals, I just had their songs out and like Lay's chips I couldn't play just one, lol!
I wrote you about that song London Town- had to outsource again, my good ffiend from Ireland.
And it takes the Golden Pell, so a worthy winner and a worthy effort on my part to get it.
Always thinking, it seemed like a good way to begin the 2nd show, after the song about the Beatles.
See now, Donovan's Catch The Wind is just beautiful, can't believe you never heard it, and a perfect example why I highly recommend you investigate his music.
He never got the credit he deserved, one reason because he was called the British Dylan...and that is the kiss of death!
But the poetry and mysticism and these Camelot-like worlds in his songs are very very deep.
It's smart music!
We still have all the snow from a week and a half ago, been to cold to melt, and been added to a bit.
Tomorrow they predict a big one...we'll see.
Thanks for the listen and writng, it's always cool bro,
Mike

Scott,
I thought Katy Perry did a nice job on Yesterday, better than many of her own songs.
Of course, she's always good to look at with the sound off!
You know the answer, Jon's questions are intended to annoy us- he's a master at that!
And he has other ways!
I don't know about as many covers of We Gotta Get Out Of This Place as Yesterday.
But then, I was drunk from the mid 80's to mid 90's- maybe they all came out then, lol?
Oh damn, another question!
Thanks for the listen, writng, and dealing with Jon, lol,
Mike

Jon,
I do believe it is adapted from a song in Bye Bye Birdie, right?
Can I guess which Donovan song is your favorite?
Let me put it this way- there are 52 cards in a deck, Donovan has made more than 52 songs, so I have a better chance at that "What card am I thinking of?" crap than getting your favorite, lol!
Yeah, think we did have a discussion before about Eric Burdon.
Maybe he is a nice guy, but he steps out of line, the dude goes down, lol!
Funny line about Gerry wanting to play with heart equipment, must have been new at that time, wonder if they were even in use?
STOP with the freakin' questions...too bad it is too late to add to what I said about you in Part 4, lol!
Yes Jon, it WAS a great show!
Thanks for the listen, and writng annoyingly...you're good at it, lol,
Mike

So this was basically a battle between Donovan and The Animals.  Quite simply, although I totally dig the song We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, the winner is Donovan.  Those 3 songs were way cool, with the last one being the only one I've heard.  That song London Town was great.  It takes the Golden Pell.

Jerry and his pacemaker was alright, and I did like the song about the Beatles that you kicked it off with.

Nice show.  We are covered in ice in Georgia.

Wanted to see what the problem was?

I watched "The Walking Dead" instead?

Umm...nice?

Always, because Mike Pell is one righteous dude?

Has this become silly?

Why?

Yes and probably much more...

Your Favorite, present and accounted for!

Do you ever?

Well what?

I missed the 50th anniversary show?
