ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL.IV- ODDS AND ENDS PT.1

Here's one of those every now and then Odds & Ends Shows I like to do- no Theme!
But every time I sit down and do them, a Theme takes shape.
Apparently I cannot play Music any other way, lol!
In this case, it arose from my being labeled an Oldies Show at some places.
While it is true that the vast majority of songs I play are from past decades, I resent being branded anything!
This is an Old-Fashioned Free-Form Radio Show- whatever comes to mind or catches my fancy, I play, regardless of when it came out.
I've gone back to the 1930's and other times played tunes just released, and everything in between!
So in this opening half, I decided to play NEWER Music, songs from the last year or two.
And what we have as a result is a Theme...right, lol?
Join me for a little something different.

Here are the links to listen to listen to some songs that you will be introduced to, or will jog your Short-Term Memory, lol, at Mike Pell Rockollections:

Jon,

Hey that chick looks like your picture, lol!

Ah hell, what does that video have to do with the song?

That's why I don't watch videos.

And I would not have robbed a 2nd rose with all the trouble that came with it.

I would have just maced her back and be done with it!

RJ,
Whoa, my heart be still...SUPERB!!!
My staple Dylan, I like them both but the Whistle gets the edge.
Like I told Jon, I feel the same way about Bon Jovi, the last song I really liked was Livin' On A Prayer.
But there were a couple of reasonably good songs on this What About Now album.
And the Old 97's are awarded the Golden Pell- excellent choice!
Between them and the Beach Boys for me.
By the way, I sent you the Old 97's.
Guess you can call the Beach Boys a staple.
I tell you, that new album is great!
To me anyway.
And me too, I love that Hank Jr. song.
Great point on It being a perfect country song with drinkin, lost love and even a whippoorwill, that's not too twangy.
I said the Nils Lofgren album was my favorite of 2011 or 2012, whenever it came out!
As Casey Stengel used to say, you can look it up, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing as always,
Mike

Niels posted the video for Dylan last year but we can no longer access it from here, so we'll do this:

Jon,
Where did you have that thumb before you started rating songs with it, lol?
I like the Band a lot!
I'm not sure why I like that Bob Dylan song so much either but I do, and there is a video?
See, I never watch them, it never caught on with me.
And where do you see them, VH1?
I kinda feel the same way about Bon Jovi, the last song I really liked was Livin' On A Prayer.
But I had the CD, it was new music and there were a couple of reasonably good songs on it to me.
The Old 97's are a damn good group, first heard them in late 90's...maybe 97, lol!
For me, there's always something interesting and enjoyable with the Beach Boys.
I LIKE the Hank WIlliams Jr. song- reminds me of when I used to drink in bars.
And the Nils Lofgren album is better, much better than you might think- a few listens and you are hooked.
Now here's the part that get me:

Just a little bit annoyed that you play new stuff. I thought this was a show where we're introduced to oldies but goodies? Kinda a letdown if you ask me, just wish you would play more oldies. Can you play oldies? Please? Can you? Huh?

Hahahahahaha....you must be impossible to live with!!!
Thanks for listening and writing, and the laugh not the thumb,
Mike

This was a superb show bro.  I'm once again the opposite of Jon, I like the first Dylan song you played but not the second one (the whistle song).  But there's a staple for you.

Jon (and Scott) highly despise Bon Jovi.  I use to like them a lot.  Not so much with their newer stuff (that being everything since their 6th album).  However, for some reason I like this song.  It's quite catchy.  Hmmm.

That Old 97's song was totally stupendous.  I love it.  I have never heard them before.  I'll be doing some research now 'cause that's a great song.  It has been awarded the Golden Pell.

Any other day I would have given the GP to that first Beach Boys song.  Think About The Day is beautiful.  And as usual, it's harmonic bliss.  I may have to pick that album up.  I remember you playing something else from it that I liked.  Another staple.

Unlike Jon, I totally dig that Hank Jr. song.  It's a perfect country song.  Drinkin, lost love and even a whippoorwill were mentioned.  Not too twangy for me, I love it.

And Nils Lofgren, another fantastic song.  That song is packed full, there is so much going on...horns, vocals, guitars.  Wow.  And I love the lyrics.  I may look this up too.

Bob Dylan & The Band--Thumbs in the middle

The band always have bored me. The songs decent but kinda meh.

Bob Dylan--Thumbs Up

Don't know why but I really like this song. Plus the video is kinda funny. Plus plus even though he sounds like Bob, it's really not the annoying Bob. Kinda sounds like Tom Waits.

Bon Jovi--Thumbs down

Why? It's Bon Jovi.

The Old 97's--Thumbs up

Sounds kinda Tom Pettyish, but a nice song.

Beach Boys--Thumbs Up

Pretty song. Used to not like BB much, but have grown into them. Age, I suppose.

Hank WIlliams Jr--Thumbs in the middle

It's country and twangy, no thanks. But it's better than Bon Jovi so I can't go thumbs down.

Nils Lofgren--Thumbs 3/4 up

Even with the Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuce connection, a decent song.

Just a little bit annoyed that you play new stuff. I thought this was a show where we're introduced to oldies but goodies? Kinda a letdown if you ask me, just wish you would play more oldies. Can you play oldies? Please? Can you? Huh?
