Classic Rock Bottom

I really miss doing these Thanksgiving shows with Engineer Ken Stanley.
They and the Christmas shows were the most fun for us each year.
Now I am my own Engineer, and Ken has retired.
I have two songs about Going Home in this chapter.
One is a personal favorite I can't seem to ever leave out that I remember being so hard to find in record stores I would ask other people to look for me, and they would always ask Linda's Farm?
No I would tell them, Lindisfarne, and spell it out!
The other I played last year by Elton John.
It's Elton's song, he wrote it with Bernie Taupin- but in one of those strange happenstances that occur now and then in our Music, I'll play a version of the song that came out just shortly BEFORE Elton's.
Just two songs about Going Home because I am only going to include 3 songs.
That's right, after 14 years I am finally going to play it...it was inevitable someday I would!
Unquestionably the most famous Rock & Roll song concerning Thanksgiving, the famous or infamous Alice's Restaurant makes it's first ever appearance on this Radio Show!
I haven't even heard it in a number of years, and I must admit it was fun to listen to after a long time away.
If you have never heard it, it is certainly unique- it was unique in 1967 and still is now.
So much so, I am doing what I rarely do, revealing what I am going to play before you listen- enabling you to stick around for it or tune out after the first two songs, lol!
ANY time of ANY day, there are dozens and dozens of thing to be Thankful for- just look around you...or look inside you!
One for me is Giving Thanks to all of you who take the time to listen to this weekly attempt to present Music in a sometimes quirky way, but always tries to appeal to your intellect.
Therefore, here is my Official Certificate Of Thanks to All.
And I wish you the Happiest Of Thanksgivings complete with loving family and friends!

I think I caught the song in '68, the year after.

And naturally like you, it was on the radio.

You can play it here now if you like...just mentally take yourself a couple of days back, lol!

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving despite work and without Alice's Restaurant,

Mike

Actually, it all started with a readio station in Omaha, every Thanksgiving they would play it so when I moved away, I kept up with the tradition. Well, until this year

Jon,
So you play Alice's Restaurant because it is a tradition or to bust chops, lol?
Too bad you had to come in to work...that's crazy on Thanksgiving.
You should have linked them to me at a certain time, lol!
Sorry for your bummer,
Mike

Alice's Restaurant is a Thanksgiving tradition for me, every time we head over to the in-laws house I play that much to the woman's disgust. I don't think she gets the humor. Anyhoo...tradition broken this year because I actually had to come in to work for some testing. What a bummer.

RJ,
That IS a first, just 3 songs with the Alice's Restaurant, because it is the LONGEST song I have ever played.
Coming Soon...In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, lol!
That's funny, Linda's Farm- man, it took me so long to find that album...years, and no one else ever did because they were probably looking for...Linda's Farm, lol!
Once and for all, it is LINDISFARNE!!!
Glad you liked the Rod Stewart doing Elton's song, and I understand about Alice's Restaurant.
It is dated, guess you had to BE there when it came out, and there were so many different things going on in music at the same time.
No two songs sounded alike...a bit different today (said the old crotchety DJ, lol!).
I love Thanksgiving, had a real good one, and hope you did too,
Mike

Mike,

Only 3 songs.  That must be a first.

Golden Pell to Linda's Farm.

I did like the Rod Stewart song, but I have to admit that I'm not crazy about Alice's Restaurant.  Maybe just because it's late and I've been gone all day doing the Thanksgiving thing.

Anyway, hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving.  Be safe brother.

Scott,
I wish I could wish Engineer Ken a Happy Thanksgiving.
But he doesn't answer his phone, and maybe twice a year writes me an email telling me all things he is doing since he retired.
I don't think you like Rod Stewart doing the American Songbook right?
I have some of those but have never listened to one all the way through, just dipped in for a few songs.
They don't bother me, some of them are good.
Took me long enough to play Alice's Restaurant...I would bet the only time, lol!
Happy Thanksgiving now, lol,
Mike

Happy Thanksgiving to Engineer Ken...

Rod Stewart is the remake king!  I love his early work up through the early 80's, own several albums, but each one contains a couple of covers, and theyre not obscure covers, they are always hit song covers.  I always felt a little ripped off by that.

That was a fun listen!  Love Alices Restaurant...
