Classic Rock Bottom

THIS IS AN ENCORE- I AM ON VACATION!

Here's a live show I did 3 years ago.
My brain melting with the 3 H’s- hazy, hot and humid.
Plus my left ear was clogged so I could hear almost nothing (unclogged the next day at a doctor’s office).
And, trooper that I am, you would never have suspected!
Now that I have bored the crap out of you about my physical state that day, here is the 1st part of the show, featuring Dire Straits.
I’ll have the biography of the band, with a great story about their unassuming demeanor.
The band owes a great debt to a woman at Warner Bros. A&R Department right here in New York- without her they may have gone unnoticed.
Although Mark Knopfler’s beautiful and inventive guitar playing would have inevitably been discovered by someone!
We’ll start at the beginning, and hear a terrific band grow into more complex arrangements.
Good Music!

RJ,
Scott is a crowd all by himself, and I am proud of him- he singlehandedly gives me more listeners, lol!

Scott,
I am Making Movies about the jungle, lol!
Thankfully that was a couple of years ago, although it has been mostly a brutal summer this year.
Give me my damn hockey and snow and ice skating and an extra sweater and...!
There are some groups where you just can't pick a favorite, only the lousy albums stand out, lol!
Lady Writer from Communique and the bigwigs, well it's possible, wouldn't put it past them- after all they tempted us with buying the same album 3 separate times!
Hey, wonder why I played played Lady Writer, lol?
I have no memory of cutting the intro from Private Investigations, I was working with Engineer Ken back then and I never paid attention to time, he would tell me in my headphones how much was left.
Maybe he cut it, but listening to the show I still didn't notice.
Or maybe there was an alternate version we played, honestly I don't remember.
As far as fitting my time format, I had a major screwup you will hear at the end of Part 2.
Scott, you are easily the equivalent of several folks, lol!
My head hurts...favorite Dire Straits album is Making Movies..by a hair, right???
OUCH, LOL!
Thanks for listening and writing, always fun,
Mike

Mike,

Awesome, I knew you had family money!  Can't wait for the album and the wrapping paper.

This is what I actually said:

"I liked all of the songs and I know several folks here on Classic Rock Bottom like the album Love Over Gold, so I guess I'll just have to add it to the wish list."

Just didn't want Scott thinking that I was trying to give credit to others for playing it.  I just know I've read that several folks like it.

RJ,
The Sultans Of Swing has always been a favorite of mine too, that's why I chose to open the show with it.
Took growing older to get more into Dire Straits eh?
That has happened to me quite a few times with musical artists, suddenly one day I realize how good they are!
I hear that Mark Knopfler's guitar playing is almost as good as your's, lol!
Never mind the wish list, Love Over Gold is heading your way for Christmas- it will be inside one of the new Porsche I am giving everyone, lol!
Glad you like the show pick and thanks for writing, another half to be heard,
Mike

Welcome to the Jungle Mike!  We got fun and games...  hahaha, Love Dire Straits, immensley!!!  Love everything about them.  But if I was forced to pick only one Dire Straits album to listen to from this point forward I would go with Love Over Gold, no wait ...  Making Movies ..  uh ... Communique, ok I couldnt pick.

Lady Writer is a great track, and the cool thng about it is thats it not even close to the best song on Communique.  I bet some big wig picked it because it had a Sultans of Swing feel to it and they thought they could hit the charts again.  Oops...  That album could have been so much bigger, oh well, it will remain one of my hidden treasures.

I picked Making Movies as my favorite right?  Smart choice!

So did you cut the intro from Private Investigations so it would fit your time format?  Or did you have alternate version?  RJ said several folks have played tracks from this album, but I assert that I, yes me, have been the only one up to this posting.  Just sayin'!  By the way, I did tell you I picked Love Over Gold as my favorite Dire Straits album, right?

Now this is a show I cant sink my teeth into.  Great replay!

PS: In all seriousness, if I was truly forced to pick one album from them?  It has to be Making Movies by  hair...

Mike,

Good ole Dire Straits huh?  I must say that the song Sultans Of Swing has always been a favorite of mine, so great way to open the show.  For many, many years it and Money For Nothing and Walk Of Life were the only Dire Straits material I was familiar with.  Now I'm a bit older and I actually own a DS greatest hits album and Brothers In Arms.

And let me say that Mark Knopfler's guitar playing really is beautiful and inventive, just like you said above.  You don't get to hear so much intriguing acoustic work these days.  But it's on full display here.

I liked all of the songs and I know several folks here on Classic Rock Bottom like the album Love Over Gold, so I guess I'll just have to add it to the wish list.
