The Eagles can pretty much be counted on for a particularly great contribution to a Theme, if a song fits.

I have played Lucy Kaplansky before, I like her- and I wanted to get that Off & Running as near to the beginning as possible...for obvious reasons.

I love that Doobies song too, although McDonald started to grate on me at other times.

The trick, which is easy for me, is to not play those songs too often- they are much more pleasing.

Oh yeah, it's so hard to find Tom Petty around here, lol!

Glad you liked this chapter with Lucy, and my old friend/song by the Spencer Davis Group.

Figured no one would know that one by the Gesters.

No Halloween show, hmmm... Tired of playing Monster Mash?

Ive seen the guesses below and I had some of the same but oh well... I did like the Born to Run opener. Its probably one of the very few Springsteen tracks I actually like and probably most appropriate for a North East event since that's his demographic.

Lucy whatshername, you've played her before, song inst too bad, got a real catchy-poppy-country rock feel to it. Her vocal sounded a little out of normal range to me, why I don't know...

And this Doobies tune is one of my favorites from one of my favorite LP's. Jon is simply wrong when it comes to the addition of MM at this time. (OK maybe he has a point on the One Step Closer release, but that's it) .. anyway... This site should do more with the Doobies catalog, their early stuff is unbelievably great.

Tom Petty, haven't heard much from him lately... hahahaha

Nice show Mike! Couple of new tunes for me, The Lisa whatshername one, Spencer Davis Group and the Jester, I mean Gesters...

Yes, I have seen Tom Petty with your Album Of The Week, and I thought you might like that pick.

I briefly considered playing Del Shannon's Runaway, but I had better songs that meant more to the topic I thought.

Too bad about Lucy Kaplansksy, and I have liked that Spencer Davis Group song since the mid 60's.

Speaking of the 60's, the Golden Pell goes to a song from 1964...WOW!

That was a real obscure one that hardly anybody knows, and maybe their only song, a non-hit.

I thought that was Suzanna Vega, not Lucy K. (thanks, Rjhog!). It sounds like Vega!!!!!!

I could care less about The Boss. Sorry, this jersey boy just does not like.

Eagles are kinda ok in my books, I like this song more now then back then because they overplayed it. They still do, but now it's a classic.

Tp is good, as long as it doesn't make me raw IThanks, Rjhog!).

And that Doobie Brothers song I have never, ever, ever liked. Still believe MM ruined that group. They turned so soft after he was in the spotlight, and just never liked that MM stuff. Yuck.

Spencer Davis was ok as well as the Gesters. Never heard that one and it was good.

And then you had to mention "the runs". Nice! Ruin a family show, why don't you? I wonder where that saying came from anyway?
Wow, that's the most (quantity wise) popular songs I've ever heard you play in one sitting. Not complaining though, you picked some great songs that didn't even come to mind for me.

My pick from the Doobies made the cut (It Keeps You Running). Didn't think of the Eagles or The Boss. Both nice picks.

Also, really great call with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. That's a terrific song. I've been going through his entire catalog with Album Of The Week and it's hard to go wrong with him. And tell me, how cool is that guitar solo at the end? I'm surprised you didn't follow it up with Del Shannon's Runaway, maybe because it's about running and not running away?

And for the Golden Pell, Lucy K. didn't do much for me, and neither did Spencer Davis Group. But I did like that little song by The Gesters. So they get the GP. Congratulations to them. I hope they see this.
RJ & Jon,

RJ & Jon,

You know how I hate to give anything away regarding playlists.

Even though I played maybe more hits than usual, you both got ONE each!

And somehow I don't see myself playing Run D.M.C. for any reason, lol!

Pre-listen guess on what's on this show:

Jackson Browne--Running On Empty

Manfred Mann--Runners In The Night

The Beach Boys--Fun, Fun, Fun (because it rhymes with "run")

Lionel Richie--Running With The Night

Something by Run D.M.C.

Let's see how close I am!
