Classic Rock Bottom

Since the inaugural version was such a rousing success*, the power that be (there can be only one!) has decided it's time for another music challenge.

The rules are simple:

Starting 5/1/14 (that's May 1st of the year 2014 for those that have problems with numbers), you will have 31 (thirty-one) days to listen to 30 (thirty) albums. No, not just ANY albums, but a specific genre of albums.

Last November's challenge was easy. Five (5) albums each from the 60's (sixties), 70's (seventies), 80's (eighties), 90's (nineties) and 00's (umm....zeroes zeroes?). Simple. Those that completed that challenge were given to opportunity to pick a specific genre for the next challenge, which is THIS challenge.

So, you're probably asking yourself "What are the categories, or genres, this time?" Well, we don't know yet. We're making you wait and giving you ample time to get prepared. We're like that.

For those that complete the challenge, you'll be given the opportunity to pick a category for an upcoming challenge, just like those that completed the inaugural challenge. Yep, we're nice like that.

You can keep a running tally of your albums in this post. The only requirements are the album title, artist and what challenge category it falls into. You can also wait to post until you're done with the challenge. Either way is perfectly fine. We're easy like that.

All you need to do now is wait. Wait for the categories to appear below. Wait, but breathe. Always remember to breathe.

Listen to 5 albums featuring a female lead singer, #5:

Artist name: Patty Smyth
Album title: Greatest Hits, featuring Scandal
Year recorded/released: 1998

Saving my favorite for last, I've loved this woman ever since I set eyes on her on MTV back in 1982. Incredible voice, incredible looking.....my favorite female singer of all time! My personal favorites are "Love's Got A Line On You" when she was still in Scandal, and "Isn't It Enough", from her solo LP, Never Enough in 1987. In a parallel universe somewhere, she's married to me and not that asshat John McEnroe! lol

CHALLENGE #6 COMPLETE!

CLASSIC ROCK BOTTOM MAY MUSIC CHALLENGE.....COMPLETE!

This is your "first person to complete the challenge" prize:

5) Listen to 5 albums from a group where at least one band member died (courtesy Scott B.)

The Cars - The Cars (Benjamin Orr 10/3/2000)

T.Rex - Electric Warrior (Marc Bolan 9/16/1977, Mickey Finn 1/11/2003, Steve Currie 4/28/1981)

Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (Phil Lynott 1/4/1986)

Kiss - Asylum (Eric Carr 11/24/1991)

Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil (James "The Rev" Sullivan 12/28/2009)

Fouth album in the catagory 5) Listen to 5 albums from a group where at least one band member died (courtesy Scott B.)**:

The Kinks - The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society

And it's off course the bass-player Pete Quaife, that died a few years back. This is probably my favorite Kinks-album. And one of my absolute Kinks-songs appear here as well ("Days"). Great album!

Fifth and final album in the catagory

5) Listen to 5 albums from a group where at least one band member died (courtesy Scott B.)**

Rainbow - Rising.

Awesome album! Especially "Stargazer", off course. But I'm not really a fan of this line-up. I became a fan of Rainbow (and saw them live) in 1981, so I'm mostly a Joe Lynn-Turner-era-fan. Nevertheless, this is a CLASSIC!!

Third album in the catagory (ydrkk!!) 2) Listen to 5 disco and/or funk albums, soundtracks included (per Scott G.):

Eric Gadd - Floating.

I don't think, that anyone around here knows Eric Gadd. He's a swedish Disco/funk/soul-artist, and was populare around here in the 90's. I actually bought this album back in '95, and it was....okay, but it's a bit tough listening to the album now. Oh, well, 3 down 2 to go in this awfull catagory.

Your welcome.

What kind of music do you REALLY hate, Scott? Maybe I can find a good catagory next time around?!

Fourth album in the catagory 3) Listen to 5 punk and/or alternative rock albums but 2 of the 5 MUST be Punk (so says Mike):

The Ramones - Ramones (1976)

Hmmm, I'm also getting a bit tired of Punk. Luckely the albums are very short. This one was less than half an hour. The Ramones is definitely one of the original Punk-bands. It's certainly not as bad as The Damned, but I need some Prog now!!!
