ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL2-FAVORITES AND GUILTY PLEASURES PT.1

It's another outing where I play Songs I like just because I want to- no Theme!
I need the rest- that Baseball Series overworked my brain, lol!
Because of Today's Radio playing or having played the same songs to death, I tend to have Favorites that are more obscure than the Hits.
At any rate, Come On In, sit anywhere, just don't leave any fluids!
And give a listen, I have some Songs to share with you!

RJ,
I don't think you like the 50's sound that much.
I like what Scott pointed out about my playing Start Me Up, lol!
Isn't Sad Mood by Sam Cooke great?
Not the 50's, it just made it into 1960, lol!
The Golden Pell to John D. Loudermilk.
I didn't think anyone would pick that, it was an impulse, I saw the album and just wanted to play something by him- that was the one.
I would probably have given it to Sam Cooke though, or the Association, maybe even the Beach Boys.
But hey, I like John D. Loudermilk a lot, lol!
That was the album cut by Eric Carmen.
Much longer than the single, and the version Scott Muni would always play on WNEW-FM.
Thanks for the listen and writing, and the "Good job",
Mike

Really?
They influenced Kiss, wow!

I always liked them simply because they had their own sound, guess that's how you influence others.

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons both have mentioned The Raspberries as an influence.

Scott,
Excellent point, I did do that didn't I, lol?
I played Start Me Up by the Stones and then complained about overplayed songs
My only answer is I thought of it because of the previous song and played it, simple as that.
And since I hardly listen to radio anymore, it wasn't overplayed for me- in fact, I hadn't heard it in a good while.
I am a big fan of The Raspberries and at least that 1st Eric Carmen album- played the grooves of it on vinyl!
I never thought about it, but it's good to hear, as you say, they were an influence in some of the hard rock bands of the 80's-90's.
And the Golden Pell to Sam Cooke!
Bet that was the first time you heard that song, right?
I enjoy walking through eras and genres, that's WHY I hardly listen to radio anymore!
I could grow cobwebs waiting for that to happen, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Jon,
There is always a link between the songs because one makes me think of another, I go get it and play it.
It's a flow...a whimsical flow, lol!
Maybe subliminally, but I had no real thoughts about movement.
I am sure Sail On Sailor is on the Beach Boys' Holland album, a good one!
By the way, your BB first made me think of BaseBall, lol!
You want it? I'll send you the song.
This is priceless, "A song about going to hell. See? MOVEMENT!"
Oh yeah, that takes a lot of effort.
I thought I might get some flak about the Eric Carmen song, but everyone who has mentioned it seems to like it as much as I do.
The longer version was the one I most heard on FM, particularly with Scott Muni.
You don't like thinking?
I never would have guessed, lol!
No that's not true, your comments always have a nice dose of humor and make me laugh.
I like thinking, and it seems I cannot play Music without there being some kind of link between the songs no matter how hard I try.
That's why I could never do a show with a playlist, those random selections would run counter to me and drive me nuts.
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Must be honest, the first two songs were okay, but nothing I would reach for.

Of course, Start Me Up was pretty huge.

I think my two favorites from today were Sad Mood by Sam Cooke and Going To Hell On A Sled by John D. Loudermilk.  As a matter of fact, Golden Pell to the latter.

And I've always thought All By Myself by Eric Carmen was cool.  That must have been the album cut, because it doesn't seem like the single edit was nearly that long.

Good job.

Wait a minute...  You just played Start Me Up by the Stones and then complained about overplayed songs driving you to more obscure songs?  hmmm...

I too love the Eric Carmen tune, his earlier band - The Raspberries - are often cited as an influence in some of the hard rock bands of the 80's-90's.

Sam Cooke gets the G-Pell... Nice walk through several eras and genres...

Whimsical..........

Even though there's supposedly not a link between the songs, I still tried to find one and decided they all have to do with movement. Or maybe not.

You know what BB song I really like? "Sail On Sailor". Just a cool song, think the album is OOP but there's a gretest hits disc part 3 (1970-1986) that has that song. Maybe I shall get that just for the one song.

A song about going to hell. See? MOVEMENT!

I've heard that longer version of the Eric Cartman song somewhere. At least I think I have. Maybe I'm getting it confused with the longer version of that Bryan Adams song. Kind of cool that Eric went on to star in "South Park".

You're right, now it seems that the theme shows do overwork the brain. It's nice having a show with (supposedly) no theme so you don't have to think.

I don't like thinking.
