Classic Rock Bottom

As 2014 comes to a close, your last L/F album of the year is not "Lost" or "Forgotten", but it is my pick for the best album of the year. Always save the best for last, that's what I say. Plus, I think I've posted more than enough albums this year, so a week off is well deserved.

Someone on this site has claimed it was their idea to post their favorite album of the year as their last post as well. It's just a little white lie, something I'll let slide since it is the holiday season. To that certain person, rest assured that once the holiday season is over, I will find you. I realize that you really don't care, but I'm giving you the opportunity to get your apology ready.

Well, then. Time to move on.

Wait......

I'm thinking that we can fly to a neutral spot (Vegas sounds good) on any ordinary day and have ourselves a good old-fashioned duel. The loser and their entourage will then need to hand deliver letters to the winner and their entourage stating "We are the losers" in an old-timey English font. All will be forgiven once the loser buys the winner many beers and then they can discuss topics such as the politics of dancing, what a Rocky Mountain high REALLY is, the loneliness of love and the latest traffic reports.

Crap.

I almost forgot this is supposed to be about my pick for album of the year, and why.

The reason this is my favorite album of the year is that it's the perfect album to listen to at home, in the car, while cutting the grass, in a bath filled with oils and bubbles with your favorite ducky, in an elevator filed with sadistic circus clowns and while you're trying to write something that hopefully makes a little bit of sense.

Basically, it's the one album this year that made me giddy the first time I heard it and still makes me giddy. It's giddy goodness.

Plus there's the added awesomeness of the catsuit.

let me guess...  RJ will post his #1 album as AOTW and you two will claim no collusion...

He already posted AOTW.........

I know!

You two are the fastest colluders on the face of the planet!

You had your chance.

HA! You had to count 'em!

What would Ziltoid think of you diverging into such ooey-gooey poppy melodic goodness?  This is a reputation busting post if I ever heard one.  Gone is Jon's penchant for cookie monster vocals, down tuned crunchy riffs, drum machines from hell, and strange lost albums.  Now we get the new Musical theater loving, dance groove, pop master Jon.  Should be interesting to see if this holds up in 2015.

The album?  Wanted it after the first listen but held out for domestic release, but then forgot about it ...  And now?  Kinda want it again...  Hope Santa's not too busy to field a last minute request!

Okay friends, here's what I think of this album.  It's terrific, for the most part.  I'm not sold quite as much as Jon, but I definitely dig it.  All the way up to track number nine.

But, I digress.  This album kicks off with a cool tune.  The best tune ever written about an elevator. In a strange move, the pace is immediately slowed for a ballad.  It's a good ballad, about being a loser, so Jon really understands it.  And then, in an even further shock to the system, the pace remains slow.  But the voice of The Duchess shines like diamonds, so all is forgiven.  Next though, we are off and running with Ordinary Day and Little White Lies.  Those two open you up for the killer punch of the best 80's song written this year...The Loneliness Of Love.  This song is brilliant. And I just can't heap enough praise on the vocals.

After two more good tracks, a snag is hit.  Oils And Bubbles is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life.  I can live with the remainder of the album, but that song just hurts.  Were it cut, this album may have pushed a little higher on my list, but it just wasn't to be.

I think you posted a very good album this week Jon.

The worst song you have ever heard in your life? Please. It's a fine song, your senses have been ruined by krappy Kiss songs.

She's a total hygiene queen...  ITs definitely not the best track on the disc and may be the worst in actuality, but definitely not the worst song Ive ever heard in my life...  Heres a worse one...
