ROCKOLLECTIONS: NEW MUSIC FROM OLD FRIENDS PT.1

Not much I can add to the Subject this week.
It's Music by some heavyweight artists who released new albums in 2014.
While I refuse to supply a playlist, I will tell you the New in this Part One comes from Bob Seger, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Petty & Heartbreakers- and what-was-he-thinking strangeness from Neil Young.
All song selections are totally subjective, simply songs that I heard and liked that may have been panned by critics for all I know.
Enjoy!

RJ,
The Seger album is very good, with me giving high marks to 10 of 13 songs.
That Jerry Lee Lewis Rock 'n' Roll Time was written by Kris Kristofferson but sounds ready made for for the Killer's life- it's a covers album in that Lewis didn't write any of the songs, but most weren't hits or well known.
I like Petty's American Dream Plan B, I backed off on it because he so clearly says "shit" in it!
There are times I try to be wholesome, lol!
As much as I like him, no one knows what what Neil Young was thinking.
Well, you heard what I said, might have made an interesting single but no way for an entire album.
And the Golden Pell, which has been missing for a long while goes to Jerry Lee!
Nice choice, and I had his songs good for 8 of 11.
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Scott,

It's good to be a slow resurrector...the bigger the surprise, lol!

Don't get the Damascus reference, but then I forgot more than I ever knew in the Bible.

I forgot the Golden Pell.  Gotta give it to Jerry Lee.

Enjoyed this one Mike.

Seger was better than I thought it would be.  Still probably won't get it, but you never know.

That first Jerry Lee Lewis song, Rock 'n' Roll Time was very good.  I think this is a covers album, right?  Probably won't get it because of that, but the Killer still has it.

Love Petty.  That's a very good album.  American Dream Plan B is a really cool song as well.  Would have worked good here.

I have no idea what Neil Young was thinking.  Glad I didn't buy that.

I'm a slow resurrector...  I wasn't expected in Demascus either, so you know ...  I had time.

Scott,
You are resurrected, but happily and theologically it took you more than 3 days, lol!
As I told Jon, It never occurred to me whether it or any of the others were or weren't ever featured in NMC.
And what awaits in Part Two?
Was Jon made in Detroit? If he was, he should be embarrassed, lol!
Nah, it's still classic Seger just another band instead of the Silver Bullet.
I agree, Petty's new album is the best here.
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Jon,
Oh that's right, you are in Seger territory- and the better half is a fanatic eh?
It never occurred to me whether it or any of the others were or weren't ever featured in NMC- I can't remember everything, and there is another half to go.
The second song had him in mind and was intended to sound like SRV.
Jerry Lee Lewis says hello, BRUUUUUUUUCE too, lol!
Petty didn't make your top 15?
What a strange man you are, lol!
Like I said, Neil is getting quirkier than Dylan- but I felt people deserved to hear at least one cut, so I picked the shortest...no dummy me!
And once again, you leave me scratching my head and searching for an interpreter, lol!

Nice show. Liked the BS & the TP but you don't use TP for BS. Weird how that works, huh?

Oh yeah..hahahaha...weird!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Resurrected?  Or did I come back as a Classic Rock fan?

I too wonder why no one on this site purchased the Seger album.  I have come close a couple of times but thought I would wait for an NMC post which has yet to come.  Is this first song about Jon?  I liked what I heard but I'm not sure its the classic Seger I was hoping to hear, at least the version I liked.  It seems more country-tinged.

Petty's new album is by far the best here.  I liked it when I heard it in NMC.  And its still a regular listen for me, so it worked!  The JLL and NY were interesting but not for me...

Nice work Mike!!

My better half still hasn't been able to run into Bob Seger at the local grocery store, so she hasn't been hit with a restraining order or been deemed a stalker. Yet. She also has stopped listening to her Bob Seger greatest hits disc over and over and over again, so I guess I'm not as burned out on BS as I was a year ago. This really isn't that bad and it was never featured in NMC. Kind of odd, wonder why that it is? Nobody else here bought it? The second song sound like SRV, thought it was a different artist for a bit.

The Jerry Lee Lewis song did nothing for me.

TP's album is a really good album. Not good enough to be in my top 15 of the year, but good nonetheless.

And.....no to Neil. Like Neil a lot, but this doesn't do anything for me. Did like his "Psychedelic Pill" album fro a couple years ago, that RAWKED, but that was a couple years ago. Oh, I know. He'll RAWK out again, but not with that track you played.

Nice show. Liked the BS & the TP but you don't use TP for BS. Weird how that works, huh?
