Classic Rock Bottom

This latest L/F album is from 1977 and is the one and only album released from Treasure.

Fronted by Felix Cavaliere (ex-Young Rascals/Rascals), this is a slice of 70's soft rock even though the album cover might make you think that it's a prog epic. You know, because of the ship and them these clouds. The sea looks pretty rough as well, and that's also a bit proggy.

Some people might notice the geetarist, whose name is Vincent Cusano. What's funny is that the geetar solos seem to come out of nowhere and kinda maybe don't fit, but they actually do. I also would like to make it known that I do not care if the geetarist is known by another name and if he possibly played in another group. This is NOT the forum for that discussion.

The reason I'm picking track five as the awesome track is that it makes an attempt to be proggy, so it maybe fits in with the album cover.

That's it until my final post of the year next week. I'm entitled to some time off so next week's post is going to be........different.

This Felix Caviary guy sounds familiar from more than just the Rascals.  Maybe he had another hit?  Certainly not found on this album.  But Vinnie Cusarino is certainly familiar, he was a Sweathog!  Duh...

Back to Felix Corvetterary...  Even though this is soft rock, there is a weird frenetic undertone and feel to the vocal harmonies at least up front its noticeable.  They all have the same feel, and you're about the guitar work, it doesn't come up enough and when it does its a bit out of place at first.

Far be it from me to be so rude as to use the "B" word, so I wont go there, but this does fade into the back ground the more I listen.  Its soft but it does try to rock in some weird hybrid way.  Maybe if they would rocked up the riffs, added some more guitar work it would've helped.  It was a fast listen as well, at 9 songs it nears the perfect length of a proper album, but felt like it went fast.

Cant argue against your choice of awesome song either, so on this one your right.  However, because they all start to sound the same I couldn't make an argument against it if someone chose a different awesome-est song...  Not bad, though not a purchase.

I agree that the cover looks like it would be for a prog album.  I dig it.  Though the clouds don't do anything to help the album cover.  I do feel like a very big storm is brewing there, and I'm very worried for the men (and women, if there are any) who populate the vessel.  At least, if the clouds didn't look like a a version of the Michelin Man, I would be very worried.

It's also 70's soft rock, could even pass for early 80's soft rock.  Or yacht rock if you would.  Whatever.

Not bad musically.  I'd say that first song is probably the best on the album, but I also like the last track.  Nothing here is bad, but there is also nothing that makes you think, "why did this band never make it big"?  So, what does all that mean? It means that it's okay.  That's it.
