Classic Rock Bottom

Disclaimer: All info that does not reside in my brain is gathered from wikipedia.com (mostly because Jon can't stand it) unless otherwise noted.

This week's Album of the Week comes from 1997.  It's Creed's debut effort, My Own Prison.  I guess this would be considered modern rock, I'm not sure.  But I will say that I like it.  I liked the band's first two albums, with the third one being fair.

The album sold well, being certified at 6 x Platinum.  It climbed as high as number 22 on the Billboard 200 album chart.  Several singles were released, but One was the only one that cracked the Top 100.  Mark Tremonti is a beast on the guitar and Scott Stapp was a tremendous vocalist.  At least that's what I think.  '

The album is readily available and can be had for under ten dollars on Amazon.

Come on! CREED?????!!!!!

YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE ME LISTEN TO A CREED ALBUM????

What's next? Nickelback???

Early 2000's, probably.  Glad I can make you happy!

Sorry, but this has no appeal to me at all. Everything sounded the same from the geetars to the singin' but I guess I was supposed to feel something since this stuff is so damn deep, but I felt nothing at all. So whiny. Think that the bar might have something to do with my Creed distaste since someone coralled the jukebox and played a bunch of Creed and it made me and my friends a bit sick. DOn't want to here no whiny music while drinkin' and playin' pool.

BTW, the word "one" is a single syllable. Sounds like he's sayin' "woman".

This was very unpleasant.

That makes me smile...

We can all agree that Stapp is annoying as a singer, but if you're going to own a Creed album this is the one.  At least for me, the two that follow this album are overplayed and wear thin quickly.

I like several tunes on here but I'm willing to admit a full listen is a bit grating...  I dig the opener, the title track, In America works for me for some reason, I like the sometimes bluesy and crunchy geetars on Illusion, Sister is actually pretty good with some nice melodic parts, What's This Life For is quite good still and One, well that's the best track here, one might say its the Cherry pick of the album or a RED song if you prefer that designation.

I guess for all they became they started out with a bullet that seems to have a nice vibe still.  Didn't expect this to hold up as well, a pleasant surprise indeed!
