Classic Rock Bottom

Day 16
Dear Diary,

DING DI... Half a correct answer from all involved. Scott must be dreaming if he thinks he is going to share the points with Jon for copying his answer. Is that what your tutors thought you in school? I think not! It can't happen in those useless education centers and it won't happen in my School Of Rock 'N' Roll, either. That's why I said: Early Birds... And whatnot. To all fairness, Scott shouldn't have copied Jon's answers, because he ain't a genius he thinks he is, either. To steal half the points, Scott should have said MIchael Schenker Group, Self Titled first release. Not Assault Attack. And the list goes something like this:
Jon is winning the Rat Race, for now, with 1950 pts.
Scott remains no Stranger to second place, with 1500 pts. while
Everyone Else is looking at the Lost Horizon and 0 pts.

Global News... There are people who are too lazy to come up with a good gimmick. Buckethead is one of them. Wearing the KFC bucket on his head is ridiculous, but not as amusing as the guy who "accidentally" cemented a microwave on his head. Yep, a man from Wolverhampton, with little help from his friends, poured six bags of Pollyfilla inside the microwave and stuck his head there to make a mold out of it. After 90 minutes of failed rescue mission, his buddies called the ambulance. Now, that's all fine and dandy, but no first aide training gave the solution to those guys either, so they called the fire department. Where there is microwave, there must be a fire, right? EEEEE! Wrong, those guy were clueless too. Perhaps if someone turned on the unit and the dude's head caught on fire or even exploded, then the fire chief could have done something about it, but like it is, all they could do was call the Technical Rescue for an advice from a specialist. The specialist told them, use a screwdriver to chisel off the cement, bit by bit. That worked. Thank God, it was an electrician who saved the day. If by any chance, they got hold of a mechanic, his answer would've been: use the Hammer until the cement breaks. And for some reason, I can't unimagine Buckethead being joined on stage by the guy with a Microwave on his head, first, then someone comes up with a toilet bowl on his noggin for a triple guitar attack.

Island News... I told you about the foam from the fire extinguisher and the glitter spray, right? Well, it turns out all that shiny glitter was not very healthy for the animals. They're all dead. Kaput. And just when I thought things can't get any worse, the heat became unbearable. Al Gore was right. There is Global warming... At least on the Island, there is.

However, whatever the temperature might be, it still isn't as hot as these CDs radiate:

2. DR. FEELGOOD - Rat Race
3. DR. FEELGOOD - Sugar Bowl
4. DR. FEELGOOD - Baby, Why Do You Treat Me This Way
5. DR. FEELGOOD - Crazy 'Bout Girls
from "Fast Women & Slow Horses" CD ℗ 1982/1990

It was another dry period of new releases at my local Record store, when the best thing I could find was a vinyl from a Pub-Rock band. Contrary to my expectations, it completely blew me away. Great Punk energy and good old Rock 'N' Roll. What's not to like? Loved the album then and looked for it on CD for long time before I was able to replace my lost collection.

6. CACOPHONY - Stranger
7. CACOPHONY - Go Off!
8. CACOPHONY - Black Cat
9. CACOPHONY - Images
from "Go Off!" Mini-LP-Replica CD ℗ 1988/2010

Formed by Marty Friedman and Jason Becker. This was Cacophony's second and unfortunately, their last release. When I heared about Becker being diagnosed with ALS, I wasn't sad he can't continue in David Lee Roth's band, but for the shattered possibility of reuniting the Cacophony. The dual guitar harmonization on this album is out of this world.

10. MSG - Lost Horizons
from "Michael Schenker Group" Mini-LP-Replica CD ℗ 1980/1996

Here are the reasons why nothing but the first album from MSG could have been considered for the Island. First, the Instrumental, Into The Arena, is widely regarded by many fans, critics and guitarists as the best Instrumental ever. Personally, I have at least two cover versions of that song. Second, his best vocal track is, Lost Horizons. Period. Plus there is a backstory that goes with it and it goes something like this: One weekend, (like many others), I went to visit some of my classmates at the dorm. We were going to play soccer or perhaps basketball, but most likely soccer, if I had a say. There was a tiny Record store around the corner. On my way there, I saw the MSG album in the window, so I bought it. When I got to the dorm, all my friends wanted to hear the album. We all knew, who Rudolf was, so we concluded, Michael must be his little brother. We were listening the album in the study room, at low level, but soon enough everybody was demanding we blast the music for a 10 block radius. So we did. When both sides ended I went home. Many of those poor saps who came in late begged me to stay and play it again. Too bad. I went home anyway, because I wanted to blast my neighbors too. Whether they liked it or not. Same goes for you guys. Oh, don't gimme that Assault Attack, look!

Foreigner, Inside Information

Cher

well if Jon would quick stalking your posts then I'd have a chance to go first and Id be in 1st place easily by now.  But noooooooo, Yngve likes Jon better so he gets the benefit of the doubt.  Whatev's homeys!  I'll take my integrity and my attested to geniusness (yes I said it!) and move forward this week...

My guesses...

  • ROCK:  Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
  • AOR: Foreigner - Head Games
  • SINGERS GONE SOLO:  no idea...

or...  there's collusion going on here!!  Jon and Bossman haven't been colluding for some time and I'm sure he misses it (this spat seems to have an extended life)...  you two have been colluding haven't you!!

Collusion? Like that Iron Maiden collusion from a couple months ago?

a mere distraction from what is reeeeeaaaaaallllly going on!

Dr Feelgood, is kinda meh. Not my type of music, but it doesn't annoy me.

Cacophony is really cool. Heard this years ago but never bothered to pick it up. There is a really nice doc about Becker out there, if you haven't seen it yet, hunt it down.

Everyone knows that Assault Attack is THE MSG album. PERIOD. Now, this isn't a bad album but it's a great start. It gets better with MSG (which is the first MSG album I bought and it had the cool cover) but they hit all cylinders on Assault Attack. Everything after that was a letdown.

Yeah, I've been following Becker. When he released Perspective, I ordered it directly from him. He was kind enough to sign the CD, with his thumb print due to the advanced stage of his illness. Truly a remarkable person, musician and inspiration to many, including myself.

Definitely someone to be considered for the Lifetime Achievement.
