Classic Rock Bottom

ZZ Top is a band that has been around a long, long time.  Their first studio album was released in 1971 and their most recent release came in 2012.  That's over 40 years if you are counting.  This week's Album of the Week is ZZ Top's Eliminator from 1983.  I feel pretty sure you have heard the hits off of this album.

Eliminator is easily the band's most popular album in terms of sales.  It is Diamond certified by the RIAA and it peaked at number 9 in the U.S.  That's a bit of a surprise to me, I would have figured it for a higher charting history.  Oh, by the way, in case you aren't familiar with the RIAA's certifications, Diamond means that it has sold over 10 million copies in the United States.  Pretty impressive.

As far a singles go, Legs landed at number 8, Gimme All Your Lovin' at number 37 and Sharp Dressed Man missed the Top 40 by peaking at number 56, but was all over the radio none the less.  Two other singles were released but failed to chart.  Those were Got Me Under Pressure and TV Dinners.

You probably remember the videos for this album as well.  They were certainly in heavy rotation on MTV and often featured the customized 1933 Ford Coupe that the band has made famous as well as a few lovely ladies.

The album is still available on CD and can be had for a penny under ten bucks on Amazon.

Tracks:

1. Gimme All Your Lovin'

2. Got Me Under Pressure

3. Sharp Dressed Man

4. I Need You Tonight

5. I Got The Six

6. Legs

7. Thug

8. TV Dinners

9. Dirty Dog

10. If I Could Only Flag Her Down

I got the deeeeluxe version of this, I don't remember what makes it so deluxe even though I had the album in my hand yesterday. It's remastered and I think it has videos and maybe live stuff on the second disc? Should I look? Eh.

You know, this is still a fun listen. Even with those electric drums which kinda went wild after this, it's still fun. Definitely 80's, but the 80's were......fun? I really like track #5, could be one of those there hidden tracks. Hey, the video for TV dinners was pretty funny. I even like the two followup albums even though they kinda were the same as this.

I really need to get myself a copy of this album. It's the one ZZ Top album I figure I would love to have as a part of my music collection.
