I love the Metallica album.

I have the .38 Special album but haven't listened to it yet. I'm pretty sure I have that U2 compilation as well.

I want that Night Ranger album and I might get the Saxon and Alice Cooper albums at some point.

9. Billy Joel - My Lives Box Set

10. The Charlie Daniels Band - A Decade Of Hits

11. Alice In Chains - Nothing Safe

12. Cheap Trick - The Epic Archives Vol. 2 (1980-1983)

14. The Doobie Brothers - Best Of The Doobies Volume II

15. Van Halen - Best Of Volume I

16. Thin Lizzy - Wild One: The Very Best Of Thin Lizzy

I've got a bunch of Billy Joel albums but not in a box set.

We've talked about the Cheap Trick Archive releases before. And I've got a bunch of the Bob Seger studio albums as well.

Here's my playlist for the week:

Whitesnake - Flesh & Blood

Ray Alder - What The Water Wants

Survivor - Caught In The Game

Survivor - When Seconds Count

House of Lords - Saint of the Lost Souls

David Lee Roth - A Little Ain't Enough

Disturbed - Evolution

Flight of Fire - She's A Badass

Badlands - Dusk

Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth

Dio - Stand Up And Shout: An Anthology

I rarely see any Survivor CDs (other than compilations) in the wild. However, I did find the self-titled and Eye Of The Tiger this past week.

Wow, you found the self-titled one? That's rarer than rare. It took me forever to find that one even back in the day!

Were they originals or the Rock Candy remasters?

I’ve gotta say Yngve, I have never even heard of 90-95% of what you post.  That just goes to show the massive amount of bands/music that a person will never hear in their lifetime.

i probably should already know this, but where are you located now and where were you born (if you don’t mind asking)?

I know, I just dropped in and ran with the pack, but I do have an "Origin" story, LOL. Didn't think anybody cared about it or perhaps I thought I let the music I listen to speak for me.

However, if you have time, I can give you the rundown from the horse's mouth.

I was born in Yugoslavia. (Don't try looking it up on the map. Like the Roman Empire, it doesn't exist anymore). When shit hit the fan in '91, with my wife and son (11months old baby then) we moved to Sweden. Stayed there till '93 where my daughter was born. Then we moved to Hungary and lived there till '95, when we migrated to the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Lived there for 10 years and finally, in 2005 we settled in BC, Canada. In '96 I sit down to calculate all the moves we made since '91 (big and small) and the total tally was 27. Lots of opportunities to lose tangibles, some knowingly some mysteriously, but in any case hard to keep track of them all.

Since I already mentioned it (and you pointed it out too), I might as well say something about my music collection, starting with the rise of the CDs. Yugoslavia did not produce CDs until well into the 90's. Even then, they were mostly CD-PRs (professionally printed CD-Rs), so beside one guy selling CDs he bought abroad on the street, the only other option to get the newest craze in my hometown was a CD Renting place. Never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world. I felt sorry for the guy. He kept his prices reasonable, (even though he had to travel once a month to Germany to buy the inventory), while most costumers had to test the then-popular theory of CDs being indestructible, and even play if they were scratched.

Anyway, as I left Yugoslavia I had less than half a dozen CDs, so moving them around wasn't a problem at the time. Then when I got to Sweden the stores were stocked like Smörgåsbords, but I had no money. However, Sweden was a rich country, and shoppers will often leave their empty carts around the parking lot, without returning them for the 10 SEK coin they had to deposit to remove the carts from the corrals. It was a perfect opportunity for me to step in, do the right thing, and have some change to start a CD collection. There was one vendor in the mall I particularly liked. She set up her inventory in a round circle. She would stand in the middle where the register was, while the CDs (all half price off) were stationed around her. You had to move in a circle to browse. For about an hour of returning the carts to the corral, I got enough money to buy one CD. Usually did that until I had enough for two CDs. I would return every 3 days to repeat the routine, while her selection would change for about 75%, since my last visit. She had a great selection. When I moved from Sweden to Hungary I had to give away a few of my CDs, to friends and family, so I can fit the rest in my car. Crossing the border of Poland, custom confiscated a few CDs as well (just to let us through).

In Hungary, I only added a few CDs to my collection, but when I was moving to Canada, I had to shed off a serious number of CDs, in order to fly. This is when I first divided my collection into a part I would take, literally, to the end of the world with me, and to a pile, I can live without. Unfortunately, the later was sold for next to nothing, in a short time frame I had.

In Canada, buying CDs was equally hard and easy. Following a list I made, and added to it over the years was hard, but second-hand stores that carried CDs (something I first encountered here), and Music Club's with great deals, also made it easy to build a collection. If you could live with a somewhat restricted selection, that is. Even though I didn't have to anymore, I still filed my collection into two groups: The Island (Cds I would take to a deserted Island with me), and the Trade/Sell pile (tailor-made for visiting second-hand stores).

This system worked well for a good while until I started working at multiple workplaces. I had to since they were all part-time and on an on-call basis. At one point (for only a couple of months) I had 4 jobs, to meet ends. As I gained more seniority I kept 3 jobs, then settled with 2. The good news was, I made enough money to pay the bills and have some extra moolah to cross out albums from my list of CDs I would like to have. The bad news was, I had no time to listen to them. Hence the "Later list". Originally the idea was to keep these CDs separate until I find time to listen to them and file them either under the Island group or the Sell/Trade group. With time passing the "Later" pile outgrow the other two. I built a shelf on a whole wall to accommodate the pile. Most of these CDs I haven't listened to at all, but here you can find ones I bought as upgrades, new versions, first time on CDs, and even duplicates, which is a testament to my poor cataloging system.

What I list here are the CDs I can listen to at work over the week (from the "Later" pile). The ones that require a closer hearing, will be repeated in a one-on-one session at home before I decide whether they will end up on the Island or Sell/Trade pile. Due to space limitations of the Island, and Sell/Trade piles, substantial expansions were impossible to undergo, so I had to create an additional pile, that will remain on the same wall, now calling it The Great Wall Of Chief-Dynasty (a.k.a. CD:-). (Yeah, I just made it up... So what!?). These are the previously known as "Later" CDs, not good enough for the Island, but better than the Sell/Trade selection.

Now you know. I hope it wasn't a dry reading. To sum it up, I have to say I like CDs I deem to be great, but for some reason are low on everybody's radar. It takes research to find them (it's part of the fun for me, though). An open mind helps to locate these acts that are better known in some parts of the world than in others, yet still playing great music. That and the internet. It's one of the greatest inventions since melba toast.

That being said, wait till I get to my Best Of CDs. I think they will be more familiar to the masses.
