Hearing Iron Maiden for the first time is powerful, no matter which album it is, so I'm not even a bit surprised by the impact "SIT" left on you.

However, for a fan from the early days, like myself, this album is the one where the enthusiasm started to wane. I remember listening to my favorite show on Radio-202 back home in anticipation of a new Iron Maiden tune running for the "Song Of The Week" title, and after hearing it, it left me cold. (Can't remember which song was, though). Since that song didn't even make the top 10 to compete for the title that week, I'd say I wasn't the only disappointed soul. (For comparison sake, every previous IM album generated at least 2 Hit songs... or more... at the same Radio station).

I forgot about the album until I went vinyl shopping with my Pop enthusiast friend. We stopped by "SIT" and he started to rave on and on how this is the BEST Heavy Metal album he ever heard. I gave in to his hype and bought the album, just to be let down once again when I spun the record. I'll give you "Alexandar The Great" is THE best song on "SIT", but even that didn't get more than 2-3 plays from me. In a hindsight, I wish I never bought the album. That way my heart wouldn't be clouded with previous feelings when they rolled out their next projects. As it was the case, my subsequent Iron Maiden purchase didn't happen until Brave New World. That means I missed 3 decent studio releases in between. (Not counting the two BB projects, of course).

Later I did buy "Seventh Son" which I like quite a bit, and the 2 BB CDs, which are even lower on my totem pole than "SIT", but I never replaced my left-behind "SIT" vinyl.

The funny thing for me is that I am not really a fan of the first two Iron Maiden albums. Part of that might be because I heard Bruce Dickinson first. But I just really don't like Paul Di'Anno's vocals that much.

And yes, the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album is excellent.
