WHAT CLASSIC ROCK (OR JUST PLAIN ROCK) ARE YOU LISTENING TO?

So what are you listening to right now?  Any genre is cool.

Lots of common folks chalk every mixed-bag of releases under the same file: Various Artists.
Those with a somewhat evolved sense of diversity might add another department to include Soundtracks, as well. I used to be one of them. However, as I was sorting through my "later" pile, this simplicity started to exhibit its flaws. So, I took the liberty to extend the category. As a result, here are the GROUP IDENTIFIERZ:

NOVELTY (Releasez): (It's a collection alright, but not necessarily of songs. In fact, they hardly ever are. It's jingles, sound effects, spoken words, poetry, stand-up comedy, leftfield, woofer tests, art/game ROMs, and everything else defying clear definitions).
When are they of interest to me: Hardly ever.
Circulation: Low, Low, Low.
Second-hand availability: Yes, if you know where to look.
Re-releases: No, but there is always a 2.0 version.
Collectability factor: I don't know. Ask someone who does.

SOUNDTRACK (Classicz): (Previously released songs used/repurposed for movies, TV shows, video games, sporting events, and such).
When are they of interest to me: I can't think of a reason why would they be?
Circulation: Enough to make a splash.
Second-hand availability: Don't have to look hard to find one. I just don't know, why should I?
Re-releases: Not enough to make a splash.
Collectability factor: What!?

SOUNDTRACK (Originalz): (Songs written and performed by artists exclusively for movies, TV shows, video games, sporting events, and such).
When are they of interest to me: When the songs are memorable, action-packed, from the 80s or they sound like they could be from the 80s).
Circulation: Depending on how big the movie, TV show, video game, or sporting event was.
Second-hand availability: It's conditional to the movie, TV show, video game, or sporting event's cult status.
Re-releases: The initial pressing is sufficient to supply a few generations of followers.
Collectability factor: Usually a steal, unless they are from the 80s, in which case they fetch astronomical prices.

SOUNDTRACK (Scorez): (Instrumentals for movies, TV shows, video games, sporting events, and such, accredited to composers, artists, or orchestra).
When are they of interest to me: When the music is played on guitar, synth with no-to very little orchestra.
Circulation: Low. Aimed at a niche market.
Second-hand availability: Grab them while they last.
Re-releases: Are closely tied to the popularity of the franchise, and occasional celebratory reproduction.
Collectability factor: The number of fans might be a few in this category, but they do like to have 'em all.

Note: Hybrid versions of Soundtrackz/Scorez/Classicz do exist where two or more of these categories are combined together in one release.

VARIOUS (Coverz): (A stack of mix-matched bigwigs/unknown artists performing tributes or different spins on some of the most celebrated songs, genres, or holiday tunes, including but not limited to: X-Mas).
When are they of interest to me: When the songs are dressed outside of their original style. Carbone copies escape all logic.
Circulation: Medium - Rare. Depending on who/what is the subject of these fixations.
Second-hand availability: Plenty.
Re-releases: Once in a while some poor "label" schmuck sees more in them, than the rest of us.
Collectability factor: I'm yet to meet someone raving about them, but it might be a sleeping giant... Not!

VARIOUS (Hitz): (Digest way of compiling chart songs in one place by genre, theme, or other means).
When are they of interest to me: One-hit-wonders. Artists with not enough "hits" to fill a Best Of album. And/or when tunes are missing from such releases.
Circulation: They have a devoted market. These CDs sell like hotcakes. To meet the demand, they are pressed in high numbers.
Second-hand availability: You can still find them used, and abused by previous owners who saw no lasting values in them.
Re-releases: While rarely repressed with the exact same tracklist, these individual songs do appear on numerous similar compilations.
Collectability factor: The trick is to find compilations that collect the most songs you want, without fillers, in the art of getting the biggest bang for your buck.

VARIOUS (Obscurez): (Assemblage of less popular to outright obscure songs, previously released but failed to chart, forgotten, and/or are hard to track down).
When are they of interest to me: The music style will play a big part of their appeal, but generally, the more obscure they are, the better.
Circulation: Not a whole lot.
Second-hand availability: Yes, but only for a short time.
Re-releases: No. As far as I know.
Collectability factor: There are collectors who appreciate them.

VARIOUS (Originalz): (A florilegium of exclusive tunes by the household or, unsung names alike, written for a one-of-a-kind project. Besides occasionally appearing on their own EPs, these songs can't be found anywhere else. It's the reason I like them... the most).
When are they of interest to me: Always.
Circulation: Extremely limited.
Second-hand availability: What part of "extremely limited" you don't understand?
Re-releases: Ha! Dream on. To get the rights from ALL involved parties again would be a Sisyphean task... to say the least.
Collectability factor: It's tricky because some people are not aware of the treasure they possess. Hence, there's a 50/50 chance they'll be listed for pennies or sums reminiscent of high-profile ransoms.

P.S. Any of these groups can come in SERIES, marked with such suffix. Keep in mind, Vol. 1/Pt. 1 in the title, without a proper follow-up, is NOT a SERIES... yet.
P.S. P.S. The CDs are listed first, in alphabetical order by their Title ― followed by the artist name (if applicable) ― then group identifier (plus other suffixes').
P.S. P.S. P.S. Don't you feel smarter already?

I don't have any of these albums but regarding that Buffy soundtrack, I'd love to find myself a copy of the soundtrack for the show's musical episode 'Once More With Feeling'.

My daughter is a fan of the series. I caught a glimpse of the episode you mentioned, while she was watching her DVD but nothing seemed special about the music.

Is it?

I mean, is there something of a noteworthy about it, perhaps I don't know?
