Classic Rock Bottom

Lucky 13.  Hmmm...  The SHT list is entering its teenage phase.  I entered teenagedom in 1978 amidst the Disco craze and New Wave movement.  Hang on...  Im having flashbacks...

Whoa, that was a rush... ok I'm back, lets not go back there again.  How about just some real cool hidden treasures?

Title: She Sells Sanctuary
Band: The Cult
Album: Love
Year: 1985

(Pulled from the compilation 'High Octane Cult')
Cool song, cool band, nice use of the acoustic guitar, nice beat.  Is there anything wrong about this song?

Title: You've Got What I Need
Band: Shooting Star
Album: Shooting Star
Year: 1979

Shooting Star is one of those bands you hear on the radio and the next day you ran out to the local record shop and bought up what you could.  I heard a live concert broadcast of them and to this day I still follow them and anxiously wait for new music, thank goodness they are still active.  But this track is just cool and showcases alot of their talent.

Title: Do Your Own Thing
Band: Union
Album: The Blue Room
Year: 2000

John Corabi and Bruce Kulick's second effort is a real nice mix of riff based rock and roll and new alternative feel.  They really strike a nice balance of styles on this release.  I like this lead off track as an introduction for you all.

Title: Really Don't Mind
Band: Chilliwack
Album: Opus X
Year: 1982

Opus X has two personalities.  Side 1 being radio friendly and side 2 just outright, in your face, rock and roll.  This is from side 2.

Title: Afterglow
Band: INXS
Album: Switch
Year: 2005

Mid way through the list, time to slow it down a little.  This track is just slick, clean, and beautiful.  I love the lyrics and think that JD Fortune is a perfect replacement for this bands new direction.

Title: Shooting Star
Band: Moonstone Project
Album: Rebel on the Run
Year: 2009

Melodic Rock from James Christian.  I heard this on another site and picked it up, this is a cool track, nice return to riff based rock and roll.  The rest of the CD is not bad either.

Title: Heavy On Your Love
Band: REO Speedwagon
Album: Nine Lives
Year: 1979

I always have loved Nine Lives, it has some of their best stadium anthems still.  Its heavy (no pun intended), and Richrath just gets after it all album long!  This is a cool opening track to get the blood pumping.

Title: High Hopes
Band: Sammy Hagar
Album: The Essential Red Collection
Year: ???

Not sure when this was originally released, my Zune marketplace isnt helping on this one...  But I picked this compilation up because it contained a lot of Hagars Montrose work as well and good bit of his solo stuff, and the remastering was good.  But this is the track I keep listening to.  I love the crunching rhythm guitar, that always catches my ear.

Title: Why Me?
Band: Planet P Project
Album: Planet P Project
Year: 1983

Tony Carey and his work has gotten the attention of some on this site.  Heres a teaser for the Planet P Project which is a very cool band.

Title: Black on Black II
Band: Heart
Album: Desire Walks On
Year: 1993

I feel bad I cant get into their new one.  So Im showing them love on this list.  Desire Walks On is a cool album.

Dammit!  I got 3 new zits since I started typing this out.  These teenage years arent gonna be any fun!

I'm with you on "Desire....". They started turning away from the 80's stuff with this album, started sounding more like the 70's heart.
'94 for that Hagar tune, I am almost 100% positive it first showed up on the "Unboxed" (greatest hits) album.
I Love pretty much everything Heart has ever done.
Whats your take on their new one? What am I missing?
I have the disc but haven't yet had time to listen to it.
The INXS-track surprises me a bit. It's rather good. I thought they where done by now.
Switch is a really good CD. I recommend for fans of the band. I am hoping they put out some more new stuff soon...
Another set of nice picks Scott. The only song I'm familiar with is the lead track by The Cult. Everything else is new to me, although I own the REO album, I just haven't been able to invest any time in it yet. I agree with Niels, I like "Afterglow". It sounds very moody (in a good way) and is very easy listening.

How did you do that album art collage up top? That's cool.
My favorite song by REO Speedwagon has an address in it.
I can't remember the title of it now.
Anybody know what I am thinking of, lol?
Mike
157 Riverside Avenue??
Bingo!!!!!
RJ, you are a winner!
How'd you know, lol?
I love that song.
Thanks,
Mike
