Classic Rock Bottom

Who is buying this? I picked it up today, but no opinion on the full album yet. I'm sure it will be great.

I'm not a collector of this band, I only have their debut on cassette, "Gold and Platinum" and "Live, Southern by the Grace of God", plus "Brother to Brother" by Van Zant on cassette. Once I give it a full listen I will try to write a longer review.

I'm sure this will be in this week's NMC.

I will be picking it up in the next day or two.  I have a sneaking suspicion it will be making an appearance in this weekend's NMC that will be posted by an unnamed Danish dude.  Just a theory.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – Last of a Dying Breed – 2012 Roadrunner Records

While looking through the Sunday paper, and watching Nascar, “I never watch it, but I thought why not and liked it”, I came across an advertisement for the local music/movie store. On the cover was a release date for a new Skynyrd album. Even though this is a much newer version of the band, due to loss and tragedy long ago, I figured it should be worth buying. I was right.

The opening title-track tells what the band is about, keeping quality southern rock alive. The second song, “One Day at a Time” is also a great tune about trying to do better while taking each day as it comes, even though life can be rough. One review calls the song “Ready To Fly” a continuation of “Free Bird”, but that is not the case as Rossington Collins Band already did that with “Tashauna”. Instead, it’s simply a great piano ballad about remembering the ones you love in times of need, and keeping it in perspective about a heaven up above.

Other standouts include “Something to Live For”, a southern-rock version of Poison’s “Something to Believe In” and “Nothing Comes Easy”, a song about the current state of the nation and working hard. The closer “Start Living Life Again” is also an essential selection. It reminds me of classic Skynyrd song “That Smell” in a way, but it is about giving up your life to God for help in overcoming addictions.

There are many CDs/albums I’ve purchased and wondered why. This is NOT one of them. Even if you are not a die-hard Skynyrd fan, and only know hits like “Sweet Home Alabama”, if you are looking for quality music give “Last Of A Dying Breed” a chance! My only complaint, I wish some of the female backing vocals were a little more up-front. Without headphones, I almost didn’t hear them. Eleven songs, 45 minutes of quality music.

Songs. 1. Last of a Dying Breed 2. One Day At A Time 3. Homegrown 4. Ready To Fly 5. Mississippi Blood 6. Good Teacher 7. Something To Live For 8. Life's Twisted 9. Nothing Comes Easy 10. Honey Hole 11. Start Living Life Again

I dunno if I'll buy this. Maybe if someone gives me some other tracks to listen to (other than this one), I'll consider it.

Just got it today.  I was able to check out about half of the tracks completely and small portions of the remaining tracks.  I'm liking it so far.

The last couple albums I've picked up the week or day they've come out, but I am showing restraint here. you should be proud of me.

Yes sir.  I need to show that same restraint.
