Fozzy--Sin And Bones (August 2012)

Album #5 from Fozzy and if you like metal, you might just like this. What started out as kind of a joke band has turned into one hell of a legitimate band. Yep, there's geetars and they're good. Pay attention to "She's My Addiction", quite a catchy tune if I say so myself. And I do. Say so.

1. Spider In My Mouth

2. Blood Happens

3. Sin And bones

4. She's My Addiction

5. Dark Passenger

In This Moment--Blood (August 2012)

And here's THAT one! Album #4 from In This Moment and it's a bit of a departure from the previous "A Star-Crossed Wasteland". Or is it?  First listen, I was mostly underwhelmed, but a couple more listens and it's getting better and better. Some might be turned off by Maria's screaming, but I've said it before: THIS GIRL CAN SING. Give it a chance, and then hate it if you must.

(WARNING: Some language may be offensive to some, so listen at your own risk)

6. Whore

7. Scarlet

8. From The Ashes

9. Comanche

10. 11:11

Fozzy (Thumbs Sideways)

I really liked their last album.  I was excited about this one, but it's just okay.  I think the tunes picked here are pretty representative of the album as a whole.  It's pretty heavy, but the songs aren't as good as the songs on Chasing The Grail.

In This Moment (Thumbs 3/4 Up)

This is way better than I thought it would be.  The first song is a great rocker, but the second song steals the show for me.  Scarlet is beyond fantastic.  You are right, the girl can sing.  Too bad she wastes so much time screaming instead of singing.  If she was always singing, this would be a definite purchase.

Wow, a like for In This Moment. I am surprised.

However, I'm still stunned by the Flaccid Biscuit/Linkin Log to Faith No More on another post dm sm not thinking properly.

I don't get it.  Every band has inspiration.  It's not like FB or LL was influenced by Kiss or Queen or Led Zeppelin or The Who.  Why not Faith No More?

Because Faith No More wasn't kiddie rap rock? And they didn't do it for the nookie or the cookies.

There's nothin' wrong with nookie....or cookies.

FOZZY - 2.5 out of 6

It's not bad (How many times, Have I been written those 4 words around here?), but it's not for me. I don't have the long hair to headbang with any more, and I would definitely get a headache. I think, I'll take my medicine and listen to the new Dylan-album instead. "Sin And Bones" is okay, but I don't need to hear it ever again. "She's My Addiction" makes me think of the american metal-scene of the late 80's, and that's not a good thing. "Dark Passenger" is just booring. I don't really like this style anymore. Have I ever liked it?

Fozzy: I liked "She's My Addiction" and "Dark Passenger".

In This Moment: I had to shut it off at the start of "Commanche" I couldn't take it anymore. Bloody frelling awful.

FOZZY ... Two Thumbs 60% up entangled in a submission hold!

Why do I keep looking around for a Wrestler to make an entrance at the beginning of each song!?  Actually kind of liked that first tune, nice and melodic with some edge.  The next two lose me, I don't like them at all.. And then I like this band again with She's my Addiction.  Dark Passenger is just a so-so tune its the middle of the road in this playlist.  This is a band that I can take or leave, in this case I'm leaving...

IN THIS MOMENT ... Two thumbs down not knowing what to do next

Interesting cover!  In a good way...  But alas, the vocals knock me way off the radar, too bad to, because she sounds like she could be very very good with some control.  Musically I like this until about the middle of From The Ashes, and then I got lost (much like Tage except I kept listening).  Comanche was just awful!  There's nothing to the song but her screaming, no redeeming musical quality at all.  11.11 is a nice showcase for her voice and that tune inst really too terrible to listen to.  Had you excluded From The Ashes and Comanche I may have been fooled into wanting to hear more, but I suspect what you left off is likely somewhere in the Comanche realm and therefore I'm taking a pass on this one.

Actually, it all comes down to even and odd numbered songs.....

I'm not bothering with in this moment anymore. Listening to Fozzy now, not bad. I like Songs Inside My Head. There is an article on Fozzy in the latest Revolver magazine. I like the Fozzy CDs with the cover songs the most "I'll need to listen to them again". I have the other studio Fozzy CDs, I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy this one or not. I might want it, just for the collection!

IN THIS MOMENT - 2 out of 6

A very nice album-cover indeed! A girl rapping in a rock-song?! Not for me, no. And you're right: The screaming annoys me! "Whore" is not bad. "Scarlet" is not as good, but not that bad either. The screaming still annoys me. The guitars that starts the third track are too heavy for my taste, and then it goes into "Screaming Female-fronted heavy rock sound ala all the other female fronted heavy rock bands from the last 10 years or so". The screaming still annoys me. Dare I say the name of the other female-fronted band, they sound like to me? "Comanche" starts like a Marilyn Manson-rip off and continues like a Marilyn Manson-rip off. The screaming still annoys the hell out of me. On 11:11 she sounds like the danish singer Annisette, and I don't personally like the sound. This time I'm bored.

By the way, Jon. I've been listening to 30 sec or so from every track of the new Devin Townsend Project-album released in a week or so. I think it's a purchase for me this time around. Have you heard anything from this album?

Haven't heard anything yet, but will be VERY soon!
