Classic Rock Bottom

I am very excited to bring you this entry guys. Earlier this week I showed up at a customers shop to pinstripe his Harley and his buddy noticed I was wearing a Motorhead shirt. We started talking music and he mentioned this band I have for you today. I am sorry to say I had never heard of them. WHY??? Who knows, but I sure am glad I've heard them now. These guys are my new favorite band. I am a big fan of 80's metal. Loud guitar, loud drums and screaming vocals. Top that off with the fact that this is a 3 piece and man-o-man, what else can I say!

Without further ado....

THE RODS

The band formed in 1978 by David "Rock" Feinstein (guitar and vocals), Garry Bordonaro (bass and vocals) and Carl Canedy (drums and vocals).
Feinstein had first come to mainstream attention after playing in Elf, with his cousin Ronnie James Dio.

The Rods sound differed considerably from Elf, adopting a more traditional heavy metal sound compared with the blues-rock sound that Elf preferred.

Their first album was originally released independently as Rock Hard in 1980 and the following year the band was signed by Arista Records, who reordered the album tracks and released it simply titled The Rods. Their second album Wild Dogs followed in 1982 and was re-released in 2004.

The Rods' third album, released 1983, was entitled In The Raw. In 1984 Canedy and Bordonaro played on Jack Starr's album Out of the Darkness with Rhett Forrester of Riot and Gary Driscoll of Rainbow. Then in 1984 The Rods made their fourth studio album Let Them Eat Metal and recorded the album The Rods Live.

Their album Heavier Than Thou was originally released in 1986. An album was also released that features all of the band's members, entitled Hollywood - Canedy, Feinstein, Bordonaro, & Caudle.

(thanks to Wikipedia for the above)

In 2011 the band released Vengeance as well and are now touring I believe. Great to see these types of bands making a comeback much as Anvil did, who ironically enough, this band reminds me a lot of.

This was not grabbing me at first, although I like the guitar work.  I think it's the vocals and iffy production.

However, I'm still listening, and "Nothing Going On In The City" is pretty killer.  It has a serious Judas Priest vibe, at least to me anyway (this is coming from someone who isn't a Priest fan).

Rock Hard is really, really cheesy.  But other than that, this one get's my nod out of the 3 you have posted so far.  Great guitar work here.

I'm not sold on their songwriting though.  The best two songs to me are the covers.

It took me a bit to figure it out but Rock Hard sounds a lot like Takes Time by Triumph in certain areas.

It's all a bit chessy but I kinda like cheesy rock hair metal. haha

I've always liked this album cover, don't ask me why. I just find it neat!

I can see why you'd like it...it says rod on it.

and there's 3 of 'em!

You know that was funny.

I like this, especially for the time that it came out. Stuff like this kicked the last remaining verges of disco in the rods. Straight ahead hard rock, no playing around. Nice geetaring as well. Some of this reminds me of Tygers Of Pan Tang. I have to get the followup, haven't heard that one in years.

Just noticed that this bands album Vengeance was in Eddies "Box of Junk".  A dude picked it out on a rerun of That Metal Show.  It was the one featuring Corey Taylor (Slipknot) and Jack Blades and Brad Gillis.  Would have never noticed it except for this post...
