When I'm listening to songs for the first time I often pick out things that remind me of other bands. So I will use this thread to post songs that sound to me like they could have been written and recorded by Cheap Trick. Just because...

I will start with this one by 707 titled Live With The Girl. The chorus vocals and the little run that comes immediately after the chorus sound just like Cheap Trick to me. Is it just me?…

Why?

Because it's got to be out there, and someone needs to find it. My new year's resolution was not to buy new releases in 2021, because I have no room left to store the CDs. In order to stick to my plan, I had to cease digging through the news, quit streaming, and ultimately stop buying CDs. However, music didn't stop existing, and whether I liked it or not I couldn't escape being exposed to it.

So, I streamed a few. No harm there. It's still not a buy (for now) and I think I can resist the urge on a great many GOOD albums, but what about those rare, perfect, 10 out of 10 releases that sneak up on you once in a while? Would I be able to zip my pocket tight on them? I don't know. I guess I'll cross that bridge when it happens. In a meantime, you can follow my quest here, Month-by-Month.

Note: I rate albums on a scale of 1 to 10, with 0.5 increments. Listening to a release on my home stereo could increase my final rating by 0.5 or even 1 whole point in comparison to my initial grading of the same album via streaming experience.

Note 2: I'm only going to stream "in your face" projects, meaning well-known acts (to me). Sucks to be a completely new band/artist in this scenario, but I'm joining the ranks of my peers in a Cult of Groupies for Legends. (You know who they are). That being said, I consider my knowledge well above the average groupie, so, here and there you'll still find an act you haven't heard of yet. Also... last year I sampled a bit over 1000 new releases of different genres. To blend in with my fellow groupies, that number will greatly dwindle. In the month of January, there was only
FOOOORE!

4. THE DEAD DAISIES - Holy Ground
Thanks to Hughes the vocals are better, yet, nothing special. Music is the same as before. No hooks, decent but short solos, and "middle of the road" tenure. I like the cover. That's a purty skull. The two crows are a nice touch too.
My steaming experience: 4.5 out of 10.

3. WIG WAM - Never Say Die
LORDI gets all the glory for winning the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest as the first Hard Rock band to achieve that, but WIG WAM paved the road. Unfortunately, pioneers usually take one for the team. And WIG WAM did that in 2005 reaching position #9 in that year's contest. Following that success, they released 3 more albums before quitting, and I like them all. Naturally, I was excited to hear them reuniting and even their first single sounded great. I had high hopes. However, this is not the same music from their 2005 era nor the one reminiscent of their last album from 2012. No. This album shows all the signs of Serafino Perugino's meddling (Frontiers Records director). Wouldn't be surprised if the band came together on his initiative. The album sounds more like a run of the mill Frontiers record.
My steaming experience: 5 out of 10.

2. THE MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP - Immortal
Great opening track and a few outstanding followups see the guitar legend return to catchy songs. The arrangements are great, and so are the vocal performances. Lots of guests too. The only song that doesn't blend well with the rest of them for me, is the Scorpions cover "In Search Of The Peace Of Mind" which also closes the album with a sole dull moment.
My steaming experience: 6.5 out of 10.

1. ACCEPT - Too Mean To Die
After listening to the singles released prior to the album, I got this feeling "something is off". Now, after streaming the album, as a whole it actually plays well. The tunes are more memorable and less predictable than on their previous album, and they left their 2 greatest songs for last. "Not My Problem" is a catchy anthem, in line with their best efforts, while "Samson And Deliah" is a great "band instrumental". My only complaint would be the absence of the true triple-guitar attack. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of guitars and great solo's as well, just not bouncing left-right-and-center off your speakers, if you know what I mean.
My steaming experience: 7 out of 10.

Feel free to add your thoughts, reviews, and quests to find the perfect record.

You will notice there are twelve nominees for the CRB HOF this year. We had a 3 way tie for the final spot so I included all three. That being said, we will still only induct five artists. There are three finalists for the Legend Award.

In case you aren't familiar with the rules, I will list the nominees in alphabetical order based on the first letter of the first name, not including the word "the". For the HOF inductees, I need you to order the list from 1 to 12, with 1 being the artist you'd most like to see elected and so forth. And for the Legend Award, I'll list the nominees the same way and ask that you order them from 1 to 3 using the same process. Then just send me a private message on this site or on the FB page so that I can tabulate the numbers and announce the 2018 inductees!

If you and I are not "friends" on one of the sites for some reason, feel free to send me a friend request. Or, if you prefer, you can comment on this thread or the Facebook thread with your two lists and I will count them as well. You are free to participate even if you did not participate in the nomination phase. I will keep the voting open for a few days. Instead of stating a deadline here, I'll post a warning comment when the time is drawing near. So get your votes in quickly!

April has arrived and passed and it's once again time to nominate artists for induction into the Classic Rock Bottom Hall of Fame. We do this each year and 2019 will be the 9th class we have inducted. All of the veterans are familiar with how this works, but for the sake of rookies, here are the directions.

Please compose a list of 10 artists (bands or solo artists) that you feel deserve to be in the CRB Hall of Fame. Of course, these artists can be of any nationality. I for one would not want anyone to think that because many of us live in the United States that we think only American artists are worthy of this "club". I mean, one look at the artists that reside in the CRB HOF should dispel that notion anyway.

I will include the list of artists that are already in the CRB HOF below so you don't waste any nominations. Please pay attention to the list. Once you have your list of ten together, please order it from 1 to 10, with 1 being the artist you most want to see in to 10 being the artist you'd least like to see in. I really need you to assign this value. I will use these rankings to bring together a list of ten formal nominees. Then I will send out the official nominee list for you to vote on as well, and that's how we will determine who makes it in this year.

As in most previous years, we will also attempt to induct one artist as a "Legend". This Legend Award is open to artists who have passed away since the last induction (April 28th or 2018). I need you to make a list of three artists that you feel are deserving of the Legend Award, and order them from 1 to 3 as well, with 1 being the artist you'd most like to see win the award. Results will be gathered, tallied and the official nominees will be voted on in the same way as the regular voting. As a note, we have not inducted a Legend every year, thus we only have five Legends at this time. If there is no clear cut Top 3 for the official ballot, we will not include a Legend Induction this year.

Here are the artists that already reside in the world famous CRB Hall of Fame (I did my best to alphabetize the past inductees using the first letter for all entries excluding the word "the"):

Wow, that's an extensive list, but there are so many artists still deserving of being in. The artist nomination process is open to all CRB members, Facebook page included. I will post a copy of this in the forum section so that anyone here that is not on my friends list can still offer up their lists. I'll post a link to it on Facebook as well. Please send your list to me in a reply to this message (do not hit reply all) so that I can keep you all in suspense. That being said, I will count all votes posted in the forum as well as on Facebook.

I can't wait to get all of your nominee lists in to see how this year's official nominee list shapes up. Deadline for submission of nominees is May 10th. I'll get a final ballot out to everyone shortly after that.
Album: Illegal Stills

Artists: Stephen Stills

Released: 1976

Label: Columbia

Producer: Stephen Stills, Don Gehman

Chart Performance: #30 US/#54 UK

RIAA Certification: N/A

Singles: Buyin' Time (Did Not Chart)

Notes: Why am I posting Illegal Stills this week? Because I just picked it up recently and I listened to it this week for the first time and I really enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I like everything I've ever heard by Mr. Stills. For the most part anyway. And Soldier is a most terrific song if you've never heard it.

It's out of print and runs about 20 bucks used on Amazon, or you can pick up a three album collection of Stills, Illegal Stills and Thoroughfare Gap for around 14 bucks new. That's probably the better option if you are interested.

Notes: Quick post coming at you this week. Thought I would collude with Jon, except he had no input into my choice. Anyway, this is out of print so you would have to get a used copy (around 10 bucks on Amazon after you account for shipping). Or, you could get the Original Album Series which has 4 additional albums (which is what I have) for around 16 dollars.

Notes: No fancy-shmancy notes this week. Just a few words from yours truly. I picked this up in an online purchase recently and popped it into the CD player yesterday. To be completely honest, I assumed I was hearing the album for the first time as I just couldn't remember anything about it. But man, when it started playing, it all came back to me. I owned it at one time because every single song was familiar, and every single song was outstanding. I must have had it on cassette. I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed hearing this again. I will be spinning it again soon. It's just so melodic and perfect to me. That's what I think.

Looks like it's still in print and around 16 dollars on Amazon.
