Classic Rock Bottom

A couple weeks ago I thought we were going to have a heated debate on what was a better Tubes album: "The Completion Backwards Principle" or "Outside Inside".

(Un)fortunately that debate went absolutely nowhere. Dead in the water. Nothing. Nada.

So what's a man to do? Why post another Tubes album as a Lost/Forgotten album, this time featuring the album that came after those two mentioned above. Why not?

Kind of interesting story here, depending on what you read. One version has Fee and Bill Spooner and Spooner is ready to quit the group. Fee has a solo album and wants to release it the same time as the new Tubes album but the band doesn't want him to do that.

Or, Fee wanted to have David Foster produce since he had produced the previous two albums and didn't want to go with Todd Rundgren which is what happened and is explained more in this video:

Anyway, the album came and went. I had no idea there was a new Tubes album in 1985 until I stumbled across it at a store (I was drunk, hence the stumbling).

I absolutely loathed most of this album the first time I heard it, the same way that I loathed "Outside Inside" the first time I heard it. But time passes and with a revisit I began to like both albums, with this one a bit ahead of "Outside Inside".

The one thing I did like about "Love Bomb" (yeah, might as well reveal the title of the album at some point) when I first heard it was side two because it was basically one continuous weird song. I mentioned this on that other site way back when and I'll mention it again: if you're having a party, put side two of this album on and crank it. Fun will ensue!

The critics weren't kind when this album came out and consumers must have listened since it did not sell well at all.

And that was the end of the Tubes until 1996 when they released their last (?) studio album, the awesome "Genius Of America".

MSoTW: After much debate, Scott was right about last week's song. This week's song is easy as well.

Update: I've heard a rumour of someone having his son replace me. That's fine, I have my own group I'm putting together and then I'm going to write a book about what REALLY happened. Stay tuned!

MSOTW sounds like a colour my world knock off, but I have no clue who it is...

The hoped for debate regarding the previous two Tubes albums wasnt very arguable.  Outside Inside wins, debate over...  I think the lack of argument proved that

I like the Tubes album though, it is a weird first listen, but isnt everything that Rundgren produces?  It has his sound signatures written all over it especially the drums and keyboards.  I remember seeing on the shleves when it first came out, and I was excited about it, but I was just beginning college and poor.  My allowed expenditures consisted of Ramen Noodles, Mac and Cheese, and beer...  I had priorities!

Long story short, by the time I had an income again, this album was long forgotten.  Sad!  I like it!  Thanks for the post...

I know you are incorrect. There is no "thinking" you are incorrect, there is only "knowing" you are incorrect.

I'll give you Wild Women From Wongo.

But you don't have Sushi Girl or Power Tools or Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman or Mr. Hate. Do I need to go on?

How about the album covers? Can you state that your album cover shows a component that is an integral part of how you access the internet, start your car and flush your toilet? I think not!

And no to Colour My World. That's crazy. It's from a pretty big group, maybe bigger back in the 80's but pretty big.

No idea at this point on the mystery tune.

Question, why was the album on the record store's floor?

Really, really dig the first 2 songs.  Kinda dig the next two.  Don't really care for the rest.

It was probably on the floor because I was drunk and dropped it. Don't be such an &%*(((#*(U%$^$^$^$^#&*&&!
Coming from you, I'll take that as a compliment.
