Classic Rock Bottom

Week #8 (8/29/10) from me, Jon

Lillian Axe - Deep Red Shadows (July 2010)

1. Under The Same Moon

2. 47 Ways To Die

3. The Quenching Of Human Life

4. A Minute Of Years

5. The Day I Met You

Amazing...can these guys put out a bad album? There's 5 new songs along with 4 acoustic versions of older tunes on this album, but it's not a half-assed effort, not a cash in. Features Ty Tabor playing addtional lead guitar on "The Quenching Of Human Life". Now, I could have included all 5 of the new tracks, but didn't. Went with an acoustic version of an oldie that's sure to get you wanting to buy something neat for your other half. You'll just have to pick up the album for the 5th new track. Ok, it's an instrumental. But still....

Foghat - Last Train Home (June 2010)

1. Born For The Road

2. Needle & Spoon

3. Last Train Home

4. Louisiana Blues

5. Rollin' & Tumblin/You Need Love

Cover album of old blues tunes, given the Foghat treatment. Better than I thought it would be. Liner notes by some guy named Jeb Wright. Who?

Raven - Walk Through Fire (March 2010)

They're back! I guess we'll call this NNWOBHM? This SHOULD have been their fourth album, but no. The major record company pollywogs wanted the boys to make something more accessible, something the mindless masses would buy and it just didn't work. Messy, over the top...good ole Raven music!

I've never really gotten into Lillian Axe at all but as soon as I have some time I'm going to check out the player and see what they've got to offer.
Definitely let me know...if you like it, I could be coerced into posting some tracks from a few of their other albums.
I need to listen to the Lillian Axe closer, not feeling it right away...

Liking the Foghat! Although you can Rod Price and Lonesome Dave missing...

50/50 on the Raven. Would I know anything else in their catalog?
I put up "All For One" a few months ago on that other site as AOW when Rjhog and I switched for a week. Maybe you heard this song back in 86?

Out of these three albums, the only one I kinda like is Lillian Axe. I think it sounds very similar to their previous album, even with a different vocalist.

I didn't have much of an opinion on Foghat. They are a band that's never really been on my radar. I don't think its bad, It just doesn't move me.

I didn't care for Raven. I really can't remember what I thought of the AOTW that you posted when we switched on CRR, but I don't like this.

However, good post as usual Jon. We don't all have to like what everybody else likes, and that is why I really love what we are doing here on Classic Rock Bottom. I had thought about buying the Foghat just to see, but I'm glad now that I didn't.
It's the same vocalist for Lillian Axe...my original post jumped the gun, then I happened to look through the booklet and it hit me that the new volcaist will not be featured till the next album.
You know, that's funny, 'cause I was thinking all along he really sounded the same,
Cool...and you make a good point about buying Foghat. I felt the same way about Ratt's new one, I kinda trashed it. But that's cool, we're saving each other some money! As for Raven, either you like 'em, or you don't. Don't think there's much middle ground with them.
