Classic Rock Bottom

Ok, so this is for Megadeth fans (duh)...and there may not be too many of us. Jon, TageRyche probably, and me. Anyone else? And as I said recently, I can certainly understand why many people won't listen to Megadeth because of the vocals. IF Dave Mustaine were here right now, he'd probably admit he's not a great singer. But, he got tired of trying to find the right guy way back then, and he just said "WTF, I'll do it!"

Even though he was undoubtedley (is that a real word???) crushed and pissed when Metallica canned him....his career turned out ok, I'd say. I mean, I don't think he has a "regular day time job", so I think he can be viewed as a musical success. And with, what, 14 studio albums released?...that's a ton of material to choose from. And the band continues to put out new music at a very high rate. How many new Megadeth albums have come out since the last new Metallica studio album? 'Nuff said!

Here's my list, and it was tough!

5 - Peace Sells (this was the hardest choice...because it is the last choice...and it leaves out so, so many other killer rockers)

4 - Almost Honest (this song...I'll be damned...actually has a good bit of vocal harmony in it...and comes from my favorite Megadeth album "Cryptic Writings"...my favorite BECAUSE of it's diversity...and check out the lead on this bad boy...not a gazillion notes per minute like most Megadeth shredders, but a well played, slower, melodic lead with absolutely AMAZING tone...just listen to it and tell me I'm wrong...no way Jose...)

3 - Foreclosure Of A Dream (the guitar riff during the chorus is just killer...plain and simple...I'd love to be able to accurately play this riff, but I can't strum back and forth that damn fast...awesome!)

2 - Moto Psycho (just another fantastic, killer, main guitar riff....and I love the chorus..."100 miles an hour" indeed!!...this song gets me so pumped up, it's probably dangerous for an old fart like me to even listen to it, with the old heart and all....)

1 - Hangar 18 (I had never heard this song before, until way back in the day when I was hangin' with my Sister and Brother-in-law, watching MTV one night (for you youngsters, MTV USED to be a music channel, with hard rock and heavy metal videos) and this song came on. I was IMMEDIATELY blown away by the killer guitar, the lyrics...everything. I became a fan instantly).

Finally, a few honorable mentions, which is sorta cheatin', but I don't care...hated to leave out "Wake Up Dead", "Lucretia", "Use The Man", "High Speed Dirt"...ok, I'll stop now.

For a band with...shall we say...dubious vocal ability...what a great band they are. And yes, Dave has had his issues getting along with band members, but he always has a killer band, especially the other guitar player, and both guitar players always shine! ROCK ON!!
