Classic Rock Bottom

Well, it's been 2 weeks since the release of:

Are you still liking it?  I know I am lovin' it.  This has renewed my enthusiasm regarding this band.  Just got my tickets for Phillips Arena in Atlanta today.  Just can't wait!

So after two weeks I am confident that this album cracks the top 5 VH albums for me... heres my revised top 5 albums (which will always remain fluid so this a point in time list)...

1 - Fair Warning

2 - Van Halen

3 - Women and Children First

4 - A Different Kind of Truth

5 - 1984

And my 5 faves from the new album you ask?

1 - Stay Frosty (by a wide margin!!!)

2 - Tattoo (IT just gets catchier and catchier everytime I hear it)

3 - Big River

4 - The Trouble With Never

5 - She's The Woman

So yes, after two weeks this thing is still getting heavy rotation in my musical world!

How awesome is the riff to "The Trouble With Never", with Eddie and Wolfgang playing it together???

The answer is WAY AWESOME!

I still am, they were here this past Monday, I was ok missing it. Saw them a few years ago and that was good enough for me. Maybe I'm gettin' too old.

I still think its fantastic as well!! I just cant get over how good it sounds...and how good the bass sounds, and the playing of Wolfie on bass.

And like Scott, I too am really loving both "Tatoo", and "Frosty". (Frosty is like the new Ice Cream Man!)

I'll have to go back and check out "The Trouble With Never"...I think I know what RJ is speaking of, but I will listen again.

By the way RJ, do you mind telling us how much the tickets were?

Just under 60 bucks each.  Upper level in the back, directly in front of the stage.  Probably not very good seats.  I've heard that Phillips Arena is pretty big, and it looks it from the seating layout.  But the next rung of the ladder was 170 bucks a pop.

Wow! $60 is not bad...but $170?? Phillips is a big arena...capacity is about 19 to 20,000.

But I hope you enjoy the show (and your Son, if you are taking him!). Take some binoculars with you!

I'm totally in love with this album! I was extremely worried about how this thing would turn out but it has completely exceeded my expectations. Dave may not be able to hit some of the notes but they truly pulled off the spirit of classic VH as well as some stuff that makes it sound like a step forward from 1984 when they left off.

Every day I think I find a new favorite song on here. It's crazy. At this moment, China Town is my favorite but Blood and Fire sums up what I love the most about it. "Told ya I was comin' back"

When I first heard Tatoo, I liked it but felt it might have a bit lacking. When I heard it with the rest of the album, I still felt that it was good, but still lacking. Then I listened to it again with earbuds jammed into my ears yesterday and I really, really like it now. Don't know if it's because of the annual Tatoo gathering coming up in Detroit, but I am really, really, really, really digging that song now.

Me too, man! I am really happy for EVH...I hope his health is under control, and he continues to make amazing music for years to come. And as a Dad myself, I can only imagine just how utterly cool it is to be in a band with your own son! They definitely miss Michael Anthony's vocals, but if you look at it from the "Father perspective"...you really just have to understand why Eddie wanted this lineup. It's blood, man, ya know?

I think it is a good album, definitely a worthy comeback album. It isn't my favorite by a long shot, but I would place it somewhere in the middle of the pack.

I don't know, if you all know this, but here's a little information:

Van Halen has recently released their first new studio album with original front-man David Lee Roth in nearly 30 years, “A Different Kind Of Truth.” It turns out this isn’t your typical comeback album. In addition to penning new songs, Van Halen dug deep into their vaults to unearth songs that were originally featured on the 1976 Van Halen demo tape produced and financed by Gene Simmons.

Specifically, there are four songs on the new Van Halen album with ties to the excellent Simmons-produced recording:

“She’s The Woman”
This is the only song of the four recordings to keep its 1976 demo title. The new version is very close to the original, but contains a new middle section as the demo’s middle section was recycled for “Mean Street,” the opening track on Van Halen’s 1981 album, “Fair Warning.”

“Outta Space”
Originally titled “Let’s Get Rockin,’” the new version retains many elements of the 1976 demo. However, the Facebook reference in the new lyrics is not one of them.

“Big River”
This song is a re-working of “Big Trouble,” a favorite demo of many Van Halen diehards. Coincidentally, “Big Trouble” was the title of a song on David Lee Roth’s first solo album, 1986′s “Eat ‘Em And Smile.”

“Beats Workin’”
The energetic final track on Van Halen’s new album is a revamped version of the original demo “Put Out The Lights.”

While the man who “discovered Van Halen” has yet to officially comment on the new Van Halen album, it’s a safe bet he’d be all for recycling old demo recordings. Now if someone would only unearth those Simmons/Van Halen 1977 demo recordings of “Christine Sixteen,” “Tunnel Of Love” and “Have Love Will Travel” …

I (still) really like the album. I think, Dave is the most shining star on the album. I hope, they'll come to Denmark this summer, and I'll be there.
