FOR A VALENTINES HANGOVER, A LOOK AT LOVE PT.2

Another Look At that part of Love that has the bumps in the road and the bruises that come with them.
All part of this Valentine's Hangover!
This time I'll start off with a reference back to last week, then a reference to the last half hour.
Including a song where we are the one doing the hurting, before we return to our safe haven as victim.
Then the subject of what is maybe the most frustrating aspect of Love, even for patient people (leaves me out, lol!)- waiting for it to come along and find us.
But I'll bring it all home on a hopeful note, it's the least I can do after dwelling on Love's miserable side for almost an hour, lol!
You never know who's coming around that corner.
There will be a continuation of this sometime in the future, probably not so long from now, but I am not sure exactly when.
I didn't do all that thinking and gathering songs for nothing!
But there are other places to go with these explorations of our music.
In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy this episode about Love from my jaded, cynical, broken heart, lol!
Have fun with this, I did!

RJ,
You know, that's another pet peeve I have about radio today.
They seem to FEAR playing anything slow or mellow!
They want those meters jumping at the station, and God forbid anyone playing something different.
Me...hell I just go with what comes to me, unconcerned about those loudness meters, lol!
I have seen the  Addicted To Love video, with all those short black dressed babes in it.
They all look alike and I figure I'll take the last one if no one minds, lol!
The Ringo Starr song was intended as a surprise, since it is from such a forgotten 1st album by him- but if you can, listen to it, it definitely is cool after all these years.
The two versions of When Will I Be Loved came because as I told Scott, I really liked the Terry Holder acoustic and soulful yearning version.
Then I felt, I'll bet a lot of folks don't know the song was originally done by the Everly Brothers, not Linda Ronstadt, so I'll play that.
They are so radically different, I am frozen when it comes to picking one over the other, both are valid.
Also as I wrote to Scott, I wish someone had commented on what I think is one of my best ever segues from When Will I Be Loved into You Can't Hurry Love- it just came to me, and I thought it was the perfect next song statement.
A rare moment of brilliance struck me, lol!
The proud joys of free-form radio!
Good to hear you enjoyed it, I did it for your birthday, LOL!
Oh hey, how come my blog writing looks like a negative, all dark?
I had the light on when I wrote it, lol!
Thanks for the listen and kind words,
Mike

Hangover or Obsessive Compulsive...for me...both, lol!
You mean Robert Palmer don't you, not Power Station?
And it may surprise you and RJ to know that I have seen the video- all those near identical hot babes made that one of my faves, lol!
Ok then, Obsessive Compulsive it is!
I never knew The Little River Band recorded 'When WIll I Be Loved', be interesting to hear that.
Although you seem to indicate it is not as good as their homegrown stuff.
I had played Ronstadt in the previous half hour, and I really liked the Terry Holder acoustic and soulful yearning version.
Then I said to myself, what the hell, I'll bet a lot of folks don't know the song was originally done by the Everly Brothers, so let's play that.
And not being egotistical, I thought it was one of my best ever segues from there into You Can't Hurry Love- just came to me as I was listening to the Everlys, and I thought it was the perfect next song statement.

Its funny that when your not looking Love comes, but it leaves the same way!  hahahaha....

Do you know how profound that is? Without the laughs!
Man I never suspect when I am getting dumped.
They are packing their stuff and I am completely oblivious, thinking all is well.
Brilliant observation Scott!
Glad you liked the Harrison ending, I was a little concerned it was too obscure...but I usually always go with my first instincts.
And it IS a really good song.
Thanks for listening my friend, and the good words,
Mike

Nice show Mike, even if it is a little on the mellow side.

Always liked the Robert Palmer tune Addicted To Love, especially the video (I know, you've never seen it).

The Ringo Starr song was cool, as was the two versions of When Will I Be Loved.  I prefer The Everly Brothers if anybody cares.

You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes is definitely superior to the only other version I can think of right now, which is Phil Collins version.

Enjoyed it bro.

Hangover or Obssessive Compulsive?  hahahaha...

You know, all I can see and hear when that Power Station tune comes on is the girl backing band., and then it all makes sense to me.  Obssessive Comulsive it is!!!

The Little River Band recorded 'When WIll I Be Loved' at the same time Ronstadt did hers.  It was suppose to be released as a single in the American market, but with Ronstadts success they pulled it and it never appeared on any US release at the time.  The way they write about it makes it feel like they lost their chance to break into the American market.  Good thing they write better songs than they cover!

I loved both of the versions you played as well...

Its funny that when your not looking Love comes, but it leaves the same way!  hahahaha....

Loved the Harrison ending, never heard that track before!  Thanks...
