Classic Rock Bottom

Opening up this second chapter for our Harvest Moon Ball, a song that has been interpreted by very many artists and in very many ways.
But I will play you the original version, a Rocker from 1958.
Then I will play one of those interpretations, as the song is turned from a Rocker into a sultry Song Of Seduction, a remarkable transition.
That will open a set of what I'll call Romantic Dancing.
And you know what a hopeless romantic I truly am, lol!
Plus I can be obsessive compulsive, and it became glaringly apparent upon listening to the playback that I incorrectly identified a song as Dance Me To The End Of Time, when it is Dance Me To The End Of Love.
Oh by the way, we can take off those tuxes and gowns now.
Why not? How much harvesting is actually done in the city?
I will take you next to where the fields and farms are, beginning with a song I first heard about 10 years ago- I have been looking for a place and a reason to play it.
Place and reason have been found, and it is by the Burns Sisters.
If you can't dance or move to it, or at least tap your feet, you are deceased, lol!
Same can be said for this set's 3rd song closer.
With too many songs to let go of, our Harvest Moon Ball will continue next week for one last go-round.
And I'll even have a Dancing way of getting that message to you.
All in all, simply more good fun- nothing taken seriously in a too serious world.
Again, Let's Dance!

That's Ok RJ, I don't need it.
Like I said, I have a lot of songs to choose from.
I had to STOP myself from pulling more out, I won't even use half of them, lol!
Take care my man,
Mike

Mike, I just thought about something. I can't send you the Oak Ridge Boys song, because I don't own it. I use to own the CD but lost it along the way, probably that dang divorce, but now it's out of print and runs about 50 bucks on Amazon. I need to check Ebay again, but last time I checked it was around 30 dollars. Anyway, I got to thinking about it, and it's more of a lost love song, which probably wouldn't be appropriate at this point for this subject anyway. Thanks bro.

Dear Scott,
Glad you didn't read it, the element of surprise is vital to the way I do radio.
Would you believe a guy wrote me complaining because I didn't supply a playlist and his time was valuable?
I tried to explain it to him, and that he should just trust me.
Romantic Dancing and a PG forum.
We used to call them "songs that kept the cleaners in business", LOL!
Like I told RJ, the Johnny Rivers song was my ace for that half hour, and the Gentrys & Beatles too.
Isn't it opera singers that break glasses, lol?
But yeah, that was a jazzy rendition of a Leonard Cohen song by Madeline Peyroux, totally unexpected when I first heard it.
She sings all kinds of music.
Are you kidding?
You were on the money with that farm thought, hell I even SAID let's go to the FARMS and fields for the next set.
You were thinking along with me side by side.
So I call it a total victory on your part!
And like RJ, it is really cool that you are open to all different kinds of music.
Cause I never really know where I am gonna go, lol!
Thanks my friend for listening and writing,
Mike

Dear RJ,
I think you are my favorite listener, lol!
You are sharp, open to all forms of music, and really do listen the way I intend the show to be heard.
And nice of you to tip off Scott or anyone else- that's why I don't give out a playlist like others.
I want to SURPRISE people!
Yes I guess there was very little Classic Rock on it, but I don't pay attention to that, I just play what I think of.
I like both versions of Do You Want To Dance too, and I too give the edge to Bobby Freeman's 50's one.
Slow Dancing was my ace in the hole for Pt.2, I knew people hadn't heard it in a long time, probably even forgot it existed, and playing a song like that as it lights up the brain with a memory is one very enjoyable thing for me.
It's "Dance Me To The End Of Love" remember? I had to correct that, lol!
And Leonard Cohen wrote it.
It does sound old, but Madeline Peyroux does that- I remember listening to her first album, she sounded so much like Patsy Cline I thought she was channelling her.
"I'm Gonna Dance Upon This Earth" is just fun for me to listen to, I think they mention Jesus only at the beginning so I don't regard it as a religious song.
Just a happy one in a tough world.
But hey, it wouldn't be out of place, and I also could see your Mother and Grandmother sing it in Church.
I like the way you figured out it was Steve Miller doing "Dance Dance Dance", way to go!
I can't believe you didn't like "Down At The Twist & Shout" at one time, you must have been in a foul mood for a while, lol
I liked it right away, but glad you found it refreshing after a time away from it.
Music is funny like that.
That's why I always say I could do that same show today, and it would be different- cause I would be feeling different.
Yeah, send the Oak Ridge Boys song- I haven't done Pts 3 & 4 yet, but I think I have more than enough music, and there are always time constraints forcing me to leave songs out, and it probably would have fit nicely in that little country section of the show, but then I would have had to cut one or both of the songs I ended with, or one of the other
The Beatles song was called I'm So Happy Just To Dance With You, way back on A Hard Day's Night, and it is at least cool, lol, with George singing lead.
But how about those Gentrys?
It was fun for me to use that song to begin the end.
Thanks for listening my friend, and your always interesting comments,
Mike

ok, so I read RJ's first line and then scrolled back up... I swear!!! So Im typing this as I listen to Part 2 and not reading RJ comments...

Romantic dancing has a purpose Im sure. And since this is a PG forum I will only say that that Johnny Rivers song was always good start - LOL!!!

Wow you totally went jazzy!!!! Here again, I have to plead total ignorance. I know nothing about jazz other than the female singers can break wine classes both live and on memorex... hehehe

My farm associationg matches with your earthy view and the Steve Miller selection fits, so we were close enough that I could claim a victory in that prediction!!! ok, partial victory... ok moral victory...

Scott or anybody else that wants to listen to this should not read this comment until after listening to the show....

This show has very little classic rock on it, and having said that, it is an excellent show Mike.

First, the two versions of "Do You Want To Dance" are really cool in that they are so different. I like both versions, the 50's sounding original and the sultry late 60's sounding version, with the slight edge in my book going to the original.

I haven't heard "Slow Dancing" by J. Rivers in forever. What a great voice he has and a great song.

"Dance Me To The End Of Time" is really a very good song. I love the piano in it. And I would have never, ever guessed that it was from 2004. It sounds really old.

And Mike, I totally agree with you that "I'm Gonna Dance Upon This Earth" is a beautiful song. It's very inspirational and reminds me of something I might have heard my Mother and Grandmother sing years ago in our Church.

I kept trying to figure out who was singing "Dance Dance Dance" and my thoughts were right, Steve Miller. But it sounded country so I wasn't sure. And the other country song, "Down At The Twist & Shout" by Mary Chapin Carpenter sparked a couple 'o memories. I use to listen to country music a lot, and this was actually a song that I did not like. But I haven't heard it in years and it's somewhat refreshing to hear now.

In my comment on part one of the series, I mentioned and Oak Ridge Boys song called "Dancing The Night Away". I really must send you that song (although it's too late to use here) because it really would have fit nicely in that little country section of the show.

The Beatles song, I don't recall the name, that closed the show was cool as well.
