ROCKOLLECTIONS: 1967 AND THE SUMMER OF LOVE PT.6

Continuing with this year's Summer Series, 1967 AND The Summer Of Love.
And this time out I will go very FM.
I have spoken before about FM Turntable Hits- songs that got a lot of airplay on the Underground Stations but not much in the way of sales.
Well our first song is an FM Turntable Classic!
The old group Circus Maximus with their great song Wind.
Jerry Jeff Walker was a member of that band, and later went on to great solo success in a different genre.
After that, one of the BEST bands of the 60's decade, Arthur Lee and his influential group Love.
And I will take a couple of shots at showing you just how influential this woefully underappreciated and now almost forgotten band truly was.
Do whatever it was that you used to do while listening to those glory days of Free-Form FM Radio!
And save some for me, lol!
Enjoy some deep cuts!

Alright INTERESTING then, lol!

Might be INTERESTING to see.

Is Caligula an idol of yours?
Just asking, lol!

Well, BETTER is probably the wrong word when describing it. INTERESTING is the word. Tones down perversion, but I think the violence is the same in both versions.

Good man, with the Love albums.

That's right, there were Penthouse Pets in the version I saw.

And it was rated X.

So you mean there is actually a better movie to watch than the one I saw?

Not just a festival of perversion and violence?

Not that there's anything wrong with that...lol!

I'll pick up the albums, I don't know if they were available when I was searching a few years ago.

Yep, there's the R-rated version, the version the big stars thought they were going to be in. Then, after the movie was done, someone decided to add more stuff in with Penthouse Pets which earned the movie either an X or NR.

Jon,

Oh well, that's ok, I got to introduce you to Wind by them, so my job is done!

Man, there is an UNCUT version of Caligula?

What the hell did they CUT OUT, LOL?

I am just like you- Helen Mirren was a fox and I don't care how old she is, she like that cheerleader, is invited to my house ANYTIME, LOL!

Oh I meant to tell you, you really shouldn't have bought Love's Greatest Hits.

One, because they really didn't have many or even any.

Two, their self-titled first album is incredible.

The next album Da Capo is unbelievably fantastic.

And the next one after that, Forever Changes in the same year, is just one of the greatest albums ever made!

So a Best Of, I don't know...better to get them as they were conceived and not miss ANY of the songs on them.

Oh, sorry. The name somehow sounds familiar, I don't know why but it doesn't seem to be because of a band from the 60's. Maybe I'm getting it mixed up with another band, but it is awfully familiar.

I actually have the uncut version of Caligula on DVD (it actually has both versions). Strange movie, but really not horribly bad (the cut version). The uncut version is what it is, if you happen to come across it, listen to it for the commentary from Malcom MacDowell. There's also one from Helen Mirren (damn, she was a fox back then and still is, for her age), but I haven't listened to that one yet.

Jon,

I saw that Caligula movie on a VCR tape at a friend's house.

I was getting queasy unlike at any circus, lol!

Don't know about a mashup of both those songs, I made my point- but I think a problem is Nights In White Satin is so long, you forget what you heard by Love way back at the beginning.

Strange...although I do think it is just coincidence.

Hey, you didn't answer, had you ever heard Circus Maximus before?

Oh, and "Caligula" was one big circus!

The percussion on Signed D.C. and Nights In White Satin are quite similar. I did notice how they blended in together, should do a mashup of both songs!

Jon aka Mr. Contradiction,
You goof on the name Circus Maximus, but love the song, lol!
I took 3 years of Latin, good Catholic boy I am, and it means "large or great circus".
That one is a CLASSIC!
Had you ever heard it before?
So you think Scott will like it...but the feud with Rjhog continues, lol!
I don't think you can PLAY guitar with a hat that heavy!
After all the writing between us, I AM READING YOUR MIND...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Frankly, I am sure there were, but at the moment I can't think of too many Love songs that were covered by other artists- that happens with groups that are so unique nobody wants to tackle something like that.
Hey, did you catch the similarity between their Signed D.C. and Nights In White Satin?
