ROCKOLLECTIONS: CALL ME MISTER PT.5

An Acoustic Guitar, what could that mean?
It means I am turning the Mister Songs over to the Folk and Folk Rock Folk for this first half of the show.
The usual collection of songs some will know and some won't, although I would be greatly surprised if you didn't know the opener.
The only difference will be more of what have come to be known as Story Songs than you ordinarily hear.
I enjoyed doing this, but then I am a long-time Folkie!
It's Music you would have a hard time finding elsewhere.
So I invite you to join me, some very good stuff here.
Not to mention the surprising pleasure of my company.
Oh...think I just did mention that, lol!

RJ,
Very interesting slant on a theme within a theme with the 3 names.
I didn't even notice!
Thought you would have known the Jerry Jeff Walker and James Taylor songs- I would have bet you knew them!
Unfortunately another spelling correction- it is Dave Van RONK!
Would be a cool name, Chris Rock should give it up, lol!
And the Golden Pell winner is Mr. Sellack (you spelled THAT right, lol!) by The Roches- excellent choice those female Beach Boys!
I may have gone with Harry Chapin but I am happy the girls got it with those sisterly harmonies.
Man, you and Jon are so different, you liked all the songs and he found none memorable, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, and that observation regarding my subconscious,
Mike

Jon,

I don't know where that came from, but you have it backwards- the guy doesn't get into trouble for singing at work.

In fact, people keep telling him he has a great voice and should go to New York and make his big splash.

Until that vicious review n the NY Time.

Were you watching the Blues Brothers while listning, lol?

I'll have to correct the spelling for for you & RJ, it's The Roches- an Irish name, which they are.

Hell their first names tell you they are Irish- Maggie, Terrie & Suzzy, from New Jersey.

I always call them the female Beach Boys because of their beautiful harmonies.

The Harry Chapin song is a real nice one, not my favorite, but fit my purpose and tells a damn good story.

I will assume you mean Olivia Newton-John.

She was gorgeous, even my priest brother said he was in love with her, lol!

I don't know what song you mean, and I am not saying I won't play her someday but sadly Olivia will not be played in this series.

Thanks for the listen and writing, and the hysterical rant on The Roaches, lol...you know, I have an old 45 somewhere called Roaches, I think it was done by the Court Jesters but that's a guess- funny song,

Mike

Good show Michael.

I thought at first maybe you were doing a theme within a theme (Jerry Jeff Walker/Dave Van Rock/Townes Van Zant/The Kingston Trio).  Every artist had 3 names.  Anyway, how cool is that name Dave Van Rock?

Four songs were vying for that coveted Golden Pell.  The 3 losers (but still winners in my book) were Hey Mister, That's Me Up On The Jukebox by James Taylor, Mr. Mud and Mr. Gold by Townes Van Zant and Mr. Tanner by Harry Chapin (also a staple for you).

But the big winner is....Mr. Sellack by The Roaches.  Nice song.  All of 'em really.

So let me get this right: a guy gets into trouble for singing at work? That's kinda raw. I'm always humming some little ditty, maybe someone will sure me or something and I'll take them to court and win billions of dollars and share my windfall with my, myself and I.

The Roaches? What were they named after? A cockroach or that other thing which is drug related? The geetar in that song was pretty neat, maybe the geetarist was stoned.

To be perfectly honest, the only two songs that grabbed me were the ones from Harry Chapin and The Roaches. The rest was ok, but not too memorable to me.

By the way, where's Olivia? You have to play Olivia. You must.
