ROCKOLLECTIONS: FATHERS DAY 2015 PT.2 END

I'll open this Fathers Day closing half with a Song by a very popular group from the early and mid-60's that was trying to get into some Social Commentary in 1968.
It didn't work for them and hardly anyone noticed.
I'll have a few of my favorite Songs by Daughters about their Fathers.
Then the centerpiece of this Chapter- the Conflict Between Fathers And Sons.
To close, a Song that I feel cannot be followed by anything on a Radio Show- because of its topic and because it's so simply and lovingly performed, nothing can come after it!
I humbly think this is as good as anything I've ever done on this Rockollections Show.
And I wish a Happy Day To All Real, Good Fathers Who Never Shirk Their Responsibility!

RJ,
I was trying to decide between 2 songs which to start the half with, and just accidentally earlier came across Saturday's Father by The Four Seasons.
I had never heard it before, it takes place on Fathers Day, and knocked the other 2 songs out- there was my start!
My playing it was only the 2nd time I've heard it.
See, it's NEW if we haven't heard it before, lol!
Who knew the Four Seasons were trying to engage in social commentary?
I can only imagine the emotional toll, but it hits home for me anyway.
Man I'm glad I never had to go through a divorce, especially with kids.
I'll check out I'm So Happy That I Can't Stop Crying for future reference.
"Errol Flynn" by David Bruce's daughter, Amanda McBroom and My Father by Megan McDonough, I LOVE those two songs, they really touch me inside.
The Conflict was a good set I thought- My Father's Shoes a rocker, the Loudon Wainwright my favorite.
My Old Man by Steve Goodman I'll probably ALWAYS use to end Fathers Day Shows from now on!
It's the final word, and nothing can come after.
So although I thought there were a lot of excellent songs in there, it's no surprise the Golden Pell is formally presented to Steve Goodman!
Thanks for the listen and writing, and welcome back,
Mike

Liked the show all the way around.  But here are my standout picks:

Saturday's Father  by The Four Seasons.  What a beautiful, emotional song.  This one hits home for me because I have been there.  There is a great song by Toby Keith that is like it in subject.  I listened to it so much when I was in the process (for several years) of getting divorced.  It's called I'm So Happy That I Can't Stop Crying.  Anyway, check it out sometime if you can.

Mt Father's Shoes by Chris Everheart was also terrific.

And finally, the Golden Pell is formally presented to Steve Goodman for My Old Man.  Just a terrific song and a great way to close out the show and subject.  Good job homey.

Jon...Snow,
You are easily depressed, but I'm happy to do so, lol!
I played The Tubes last week, may never play them again- all depends on how the Muse moves me.
But you were an inspiration this week, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Very nice show. But very depressing again. But that's ok, today I shall not give away any spoilers!

Halfway into the show, I was wondering if you were going to play "Power Tools" by The Tubes. You know, because dad's like to get power tools on Father's Day. Or that's what Lowes and Home Depot wants me to believe.

But you didn't. Don't think it added to my depression, but maybe it did. I'll try to figure it out.
