ROCKOLLECTIONS: HERE COMES SUMMER PT.3

After a week off for the 4th Of July, Here Comes Summer continues.
And the Theme Within A Theme is Summer Love!
It's happened to us all- bright sun, green grass, shiny beach, a lot of skin showing- those Pheromones are flying all over the place!
I have a Coming Of Age Song, and we all know what that means, by a surprising guy that is surprisingly good.
Got another from those early days of FM Rock Radio that was played a considerable amount.
As I said a couple of weeks ago, I went deep into the Music Library.
These are some of what I found there.
Strip and enjoy, lol!

A song about the older woman and young boy?
I would never play...oh wait, lol!

First time I've heard this.

RJ,
I knew the Grease song was called Summer Nights, but I didn't mention it kindly, lol!
What the hell, that's what makes people not all the same.
At this moment, not hearing it, That Summer by Garth Brooks doesn't ring any bells.
That first track by The New Christy Minstrels was a very different sound for them, as steeped as it was in the 60's sound!
Their lead singer for years had been rough voiced Barry McGuire (who did Eve Of Destruction), so it was a shock to hear a girl singer doing lead.
You got that right with the Bobby Goldsboro these days, except he would probably be 15 or LESS and she would be his teacher, lol!
As I told Jon, I have never listened to Neil Diamond's Jazz Singer album all the way through either.
And the Golden Pell goes to A Hot Summer Day by It's A Beautiful Day, a semi-classic from the old FM days!
The violin work in there leaves you wanting more of it.
Your bad mood may be gone for this half, but looks like it returned for the next, lol!
WHY ME?
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Jon,
Despite what everyone thinks, the creepy dude is not you, lol!
Damn Yankees? HUH?
There's a "coming of age" song in there?
Teenage boy with older woman, and it sounds like a 70's song, which it is!
Ok, you missed that I mentioned It's A Beautiful Day before the song played the first time around.
I believe you, and you get extra points for picking up on the sound of It's A Beautiful Day right away, even though you had never heard it!
Nice of you to jump right in to listening while naked, lol!
I have that Neil Diamond album too, and have never listened to it all the way through.
I don't really know who she is, but women can be so prissy about things and yet treat albums as you described.
They are from Venus!
That couple is going to fit into that boat with Summer Magic!
Do you mean I should have played "Summer Nights" by Travolta & Newton-John?
I told everyone...I tried but it stuck in my throat, almost upchucked, lol!
Marianne Faithfull's Summer Nights was an improved substitute.
I never said, left it to the intelligence of the listeners, that I played Hot Summer DAY and then Summer NIGHTS!
Got it?
GOOD, LOL!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Funny that you mentioned the Grease song Summer Nights because I was gonna say the first two summer songs I thought of were that one and That Summer by Garth Brooks.  And apparently, I, like Jon, thought it was titled Summer Lovin', not Summer Nights.  But, according to Jon's favorite online reference, it is called Summer Nights.

So some good stuff was played for sure.  I liked that first track by The New Christie Minstrels (that's what it sounded like you said).  It was steeped in that 60's sound, '68 to be exact according to your dialogue.  Thought it might be an early favorite for the Golden Pell, but then you played Bobby Goldsboro.  Wow, he was 17 and she was 31.  I bet that was nice.  Sounds like a lot of stuff going on these days, except he would probably be 15.

So Bobby was lined up for the GP, but then you played Neil Diamond.  I have never listened to the Jazz Singer album.  I know, I should be ashamed.  Maybe one of these days, I'd definitely like to hear it.

So Neil was in line for the GP, then you played It's A Beautiful Day (band name).  That was a fantastic song. It was so good I actually went back and listened to it a second time.  The violin work was terrific.  It was bathed in that 60's sound, which is wonderful because I'm kind of getting into the sixties right now. So the Golden Pell officially goes to the song A Hot Summer Day.  Very nice pick there bro.

Great show, my bad mood seems to be gone for right now.

But wait. There's more!

Yes, you should have played "Summer Lovin'". Guess I'll just have to watch the movie.

The second time thru, I noticed that you mentioned It's A Beautiful Day before the song played. Missed that the first time around. But, it still sounds like It's A Beautiful Day with or without knowing that It's A Beautiful Day before listening to the song. Got it? GOOD.

What guy over there? Who's the creepy dude?

You mentioned "coming of age" and I thought you would play Damn Yankees. I thought wrong.

Teenage boy with older woman? Sounds like a 70's movie. A movie about the summer.

When that It's A Beautiful Day song came on, I said to myself, that's It's A Beautiful Day! Don't believe I've ever heard that song before, but I have heard "White Bird" and the male singer has a distinctive voice. One day I'll pick up that album, there's issues with the ones out now, I believe.

Wait. We have to listen to this show while naked? Okie dokie!

Actually have that Neil Diamond album (or soundtrack), but have never listened to it. It's technically not in MY collection, but I'm gonna grab it and listen to it today. It's quite scratched. Does she not take care of her cd's? No, she doesn't. There's caseless cd's lying around her office and it bugs the crap out of me and I've tried to find their homes, but somehow she "misplaces" the cases. How is that possible? Luckily her collection is about 25 so there's only about 15 homeless discs lying around. And she wonder why I will not let her borrow an album from my collection. Sheesh.

Anyhow, nice show. Nice picture, have no idea how they're both going to fit into that boat, but whatever.
