ROCKOLLECTIONS: HOME FOR THANKSGIVING 2016 PT.1

It's time again for the annual Rockollections Trip Home For Thanksgiving- the most heavily traveled time of year in the United States.
I try not to repeat songs each year, so it's a Different Way Home with new stops along the way and some interesting choices.
We'll hear a Jug Band that only made one album, in 1964, and included Steve Katz, Maria D'Amato later to become Maria Muldaur, and John Sebastian.
In the spirit of honesty, I'll include the uncomfortable matter of being seated next to someone you can't stand at Thanksgiving Dinner- more than 9 times out of 10 it's a Relative, lol!
And I AM Home, so I guess that makes me the Host and you are my Guests.
The Door Is Open, Come On In!

Jon,
I did start odd, and I was concerned people would tune out right away.
But I am Bold & Daring, lol!
I dig the kazoo too- best use of it in Rock & Roll, listen to Dion's song Little Diane!
Watch watch Bye Bye Birdie, don't be flighty!
And ah yes, Ann Margaret...as you'd say, SWEET, lol!
How's that thinking thing turning out for you, I hate it, lol?
Thanks for the listen and writing, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family,
Mike

RJ,
Good to see you back here, and I always enjoy doing the Thanksgiving shows.
Still finding new angles to play, lol!
That was indeed a  kazoo, although I was expecting John Sebastian to play harmonica- he does on other tracks on that album.
Regarding "Come On In", I don't know The Oak Ridge Boys one, or at least I don't remember it.
But I was ready with the Jug Band one and the Sam & Dave that followed it, leading us into the Judy Collins Open The Door, where she sings "Come On In"!
Yes I've played that before, but not in a few years.
Guilt sometimes gets me, I feel a need to work in something known- Supertramp was it, lol!
Isn't that Mary Chapin Carpenter song great lyrically?
There's a lot more to her than people realize and that one was a FIND!
And I am happy you felt that way, it fit the mood for me too.
Ok, new thing, Show Favorite.
Goes to Sam & Dave, a fine choice- had to be them or Mary Chapin Carpenter!
Thanks for the listen and writing, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family,
Mike

Well, it's been quite a while Mike.  Sorry that I've been a no-show for a while.  But listen, when I say the Thanksgiving show posted I was very pleased.  It's probably my favorite of your annual shows.

You certainly don't hear too many songs with a kazoo, or at least that's what I think that was that was playing. And "Come On In" makes me think of a song from The Oak Ridge Boys.  It was on the album The Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived, but I can't recall the name of it for the life of me.  That soul music that follows is so great. Love it.

I think you've played that next song before on a show.  It's very familiar.  The one by Judy Collins.

You certainly can't go wrong playing that song by Supertramp. I can't place that next song, but I think it's a country artist.  Maybe.  I'll know in a minute.

It's songs like that last track that make your Thanksgiving show so inviting.  It just fits the mood of a day like Thanksgiving.  You do a tremendous job brother.

Yep, Mary Chapin Carpenter.  What a cool song.  I'm gonna retire the Golden Pell.  Just can't do it anymore. But I'll name a show favorite now, and it's that soul song for me!
