This was quite enjoyable. I didn't make much in the way of notes, so I won't have much to say here. I just really sat back and enjoyed the music (as much as I could, that is, being at work and all).
Sorrow was terrific right off the bat and it receives the Golden Pell.
Space Oddity, such a terrific song. I love the way that his vocals are double tracked. Or I guess, not necessarily double tracked, he just does the melody and the harmony vocals. But this one seemed short, maybe it was a radio edit?
That's it, it was a great listen bro. Job well done. Should be getting to Frey tomorrow.
Nice show, Mike!
I'm trying to remember the first Bowie album I bought and I believe it was Scary Monsters which lead to Space Oddity which lead to Heroes on 8 Track. I didn't understand Heroes that much back then. Then I think I did. Maybe I still do. Yeah, I do.
It was fascinating going thru most of his catalog a couple weeks ago. So many different styles, he really didn't stick to a specific style more than a couple albums or three. Plus it's a bit of a shame that he slowly faded away from radio and the public conscience after Let's Dance. Along with his last two albums, there's some really good stuff he put out in his latter career like Heathen and Hours.
I'm still going to find a Bowie album that Scott would like. Told him that Young Americans and Hours might be them but he really can't go wrong with The Man Who Sold The World or Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars either. He's a tough bastard. I will break him.
Here's one of my favorite Bowie songs, the drumming is just insane on this:
