ROCKOLLECTIONS: IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY! PT.1

It's not often when one of these things falls on the day of the show...so I will take full advantage of it.
You will most certainly know it is Valentine's Day by the time I am finished, lol!
For me, the centerpiece of this show is a set of music I thought to play decades ago.
It will be heard in this first half, and after all these years it still works for me...hope it does for you.
And just for some of the usual variety this little old Rockollections provides, I'll have a song released just days ago, followed by one written in 1937 that I will clear up- it is not quite the sweet sentiment that lives up to its Valentine's Day reputation.
I realize that by the time I post Part Two, Valentine's Day will be over.
So all my best, and I wish you all an overabundance of Love today!
And offer a short poem by John Wilbye:

"Somewhere there waiteth in this world of ours
For one lone soul another lonely soul
Each choosing each through all the weary hours
And meeting strangely at one sudden goal.
Then blend they, like green leaves with golden flowers,
Into one beautiful and perfect whole;
And life's long night is ended, and the way
Lies open onward to eternal day."

Give your squeeze a squeeze!

Here's the link to put you in the mood...some kind of mood anyway, lol, at WLSO.FM:

Maybe he's busy sticking pins in a doll that looks like me, lol!
I get into trouble without even trying...and of course, there are the times I DO try!

He has to approve them first.  Usually, it doesn't take very long, but if he's pissed at your sorry a....I mean, if he's mad at you, maybe he's purposely taking a while.

Maybe comments are banned.

The guy who runs the place seems to be pissed at me for some stupid reason.

But you and someone else were able to comment on the Beatles and Laziness.

I don't know...

I copied it over on WLSO...not sure why it's not there.  I just copied it there again.

RJ,
Gee I hadn't looked at it that way- those are some BIG, BIG names!
I think I have much smaller names in Part Two, lol!
Didn't like the Steve Miller Band one?
Ah, that's what makes us all interesting and unique.
For years, as the 3rd song in that BRILLIANT set (LOL), I used to play Cause I Love You by Johnny Cash & June Carter which I had as the flip side of If I Were A Carpenter- then one day I substituted the Steve Miller Band's I Love You, and I've stayed with that one.
It was nice to finally remember to play that good old set on the radio- no kidding, I am proud of that one, and closing it out with the old Elvis tune!
You would not believe how many shows I have done from home shirtless, lol!
The Pell is a man of many images...most unseen, lol!
And you give the Golden Pell to Springsteen.
I can't think of a better choice...well maybe Dylan's old I Want You, a single from his CLASSIC Blonde On Blonde album.
I will only say this about Part Two, Bruce will be singing harmony on a now E Street Band member's song- one that I will be surprised if anyone but me has ever heard!
I saw him in concert in 1975 and a few times after, and he and the band were the best I ever saw- the very definition of Rock & Roll!
That's the Bruce I choose to remember.
Thanks for listening and the Golden Pell...2nd half later, oh..and no post at WLSO, lol?

Scott,
I prefer Dean Martin over Frank Sinatra in the Cool department!
Yeah I see those commercials for the Roasts, and I feel the same way!
I watched them a few times as a kid, and I was surprised at how funny Dean really was, but I was more into listening to music then.
Hell, I, me, myself was the best drunk ever, lol!
I like Bruce, as long as he is singing and not preaching.
The America track I felt would work, and that it would sneak up on people, even with the Greatest Hits it probably wouldn't have been heard in a while- and don't forget there is a Beatles' I Need You I could have gone with too.
But the Steve Miller song was obscure to most...just not to me, lol!
I never watch the Grammys anymore, like all award shows a bunch of self-congratulating egotists- McCartney was on it?
So the third time charmer and Golden Pell goes to him...and ME.
Speaking for Paul, I'll take it, lol!
You beat RJ to the punch!
Thanks for the nice show comment, and hey, there's another half to go,
Mike

Wow!  Some mighty big names for Valentine's Day.  How's this list:

Dean Martin, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, America, Steve Miller, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello

Big, big names.  The only song I didn't really like was the Steve Miller Band.  Everything else was cool.

I'll have to agree with Jon, no shirtless posing from The Pell.  It would ruin my image of the man.

Scott did beat me to the Golden Pell.  But guess what, I'm awarding it elsewhere.  I'll give it to The Boss.  Yes, I'm about the only regular around here that likes Springsteen.  I wouldn't list him among my favorites, but just about everything I hear by him is enjoyable.

Dean Martin!  Cool...  I am so tempted to go and order those DVD's of his Roasts!  Watched everyone of them with my dad as kid, I can stil see him cracking up!  And isnt Foster Brooks the best drunk ever?

I dont have much of an ear for Bruce but that cut wasnt bad.

Love the America track, I think everyone owns that Greatest Hits album of theirs, but they have some pretty solid albums supporting those hit songs.

I read Jons note about the Steve Miller tune and was waiting for it.  I had no idea it was him until after the song.  D'oh!!  Cool track.

Interesting tune from McCartney, seen him perform it on the Grammys (I was watching because of the Foo Fighters, no other reason - hahaha), anyway, I was taken back by it as I didnt expect that from him.  This being the second time I heard it, I liked it better.  Maybe the third time will be the charm!  So thats the Golden Pell (Did I beat RJ to it?)

Nice show Mike!
