ROCKOLLECTIONS: JOHNNY CARSON LEAVES TONIGHT SHOW PT.3

Again I remind you that these shows were originally broadcast in 2007.
And again, add 6 years to whatever I say- for example if I say 20 years, it is now 26 years.
In these final two chapters, you will hear more Johnny Carson.
In 1972 the Tonight Show moved from New York to Hollywood permanently- and that move was seriously questioned.
Since we played a show opening from New York, this time we will have one from Burbank- and right into some monologues.
Just HOW hot was it?
There were times when Carson was never funnier than when a joke bombed.
Johnny Carson had over 22,000 guests on the Tonight Show, and at one time he accounted for 17% of NBC's revenues.
I'll bet you never knew that a very famous, popular group did a song actually TITLED Johnny Carson!
We will go out of this episode with an on-air call to Carson from Steve Allen, who was one of my big heroes, far more than Johnny.
It is very funny, and listen for the mad bedlam that was a staple of Steve's show, when Johnny catches on.
SMOCK, SMOCK!!!
Coming up next time, the Goodbye.
Hope you are having a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Jon,
There sre all kinds of sounds in there with Steve Allen- horns sirens whistles drums, and Steve's famous Smock, Smock!
It was just part of the craziness, you never knew what would prompt all that sound on his great show, lol!
There are NO filthy sound clips in there!!!
Actually, a lot of people have written and said the same thing about that Beach Boys song.
They never heard it but liked it.
Thanks Almost Nice Jon (except for your perceived filth), for listening and writing,
Mike

The music was really good, the Steve ALlen clip was very funny (except for the horn..what was up with that???). The other sound clips though? Eh. Especially the filthy ones. Kinda disgusted me.

Surprised at that Beach Boys song, never heard it before and it was actually enjoyable.

RJ,
I am a "pasta-tute" myself, love the stuff, lol!
This time the Golden Pell goes to the Beach Boys!
That was from a critically acclaimed album called Love You, but not many people bought it.
It is strange, but strangely appealing!
Remember that poll you had about characters in sitcoms- I always meant to do that one...still have the email and link.
There would have been TWO ties from 4 shows for me- Phil Hartman was the only standalone from Newsradio!
Love the guy!
Yes that is Steve Allen in the famous clip where he's laughing uncontrollably- should be easy to find on Youtube.
In it, he is Big Bill Allen the Sportscaster!
That would make me laugh so hard, tears would be running down my face.
So you are right, that may just be the funniest clip of someone laughing ever!
Steve was definitely one of my heroes as I was growing up- he would do ANYTHING they asked, or he thought of himself, for a laugh, lol!
And a Happy Memorial Day back at ya bro!
Thanks for the listen and writing, one more part to go,
Mike

That "pasta-tute" line was hilarious.

Not a lot of music on this one, but that's okay (the clips were great).  Love the Stephen Stills song.  Bobby Darin was cool, but the Golden Pell goes to the Beach Boys.  Nice song.

The nut lady was funny.  And that Reagan skit was too.  It reminded me of the funniest Reagan skit I ever saw, which was on SNL.  Phil Hartman was playing Reagan.  Every time visitors came into the Oval Office he played totally dumb and bumbling, just like his image.  But when the doors closed, he totally transformed, becoming a brilliant strategist, doing extensive math in his head.  It was a great skit.

Steve Allen, isn't he the guy in the famous clip where he's laughing uncontrollably?  I don't know what show it was from, probably his, but that's the funniest clip of someone laughing that I've ever seen.

Happy Memorial Day bro!
