Classic Rock Bottom

Let's do another round of Namedropping.
Beginning with a song that not only mentions the Mamas & Papas, Donovan and the Beatles, but features credible impressions of each.
After that, I thought I'd play the Namedropping of famous Artists and Composers of American Standards.
You'll have to trust me on this, I will be playing Rock & Roll Music!
And why wouldn't you trust me?
I've earned it, lol!
The fun for me here, is getting to play these songs especially for those of you who may never have noticed the Namedropping going on in them.
So join me, as I bring them to your attention.

RJ,
Wow, people feel strongly about that Little River Band song.
I stopped listening to Top 40 so it wasn't overplayed for me.
So the Golden Pell goes to Marshall Crenshaw.
I really can't agrue with that choice- but I think I would have gone with Michael Frank's Can't Seem To Shake This Rock And Roll by a slim margin.
But that's what makes us humans...one of the things anyway, lol!
Thanks for the listen, writing, and thinking it was terrific half,
Mike

Another day another terrific half-show.

I always liked that Stevie Wonder song, but the song by Little River Band is easily my least favorite hit of theirs.  And since it was a number 3 hit, I heard it way too many times.

Frank Sinatra and Chuck Berry, both cool songs.

But I'm torn as far as the Golden Pell.  Two well deserved songs were played.  Can't Seem To Shake This Rock And Roll had some superior guitar work.  Loved it.  And the song I'm Sorry But So Was Brenda Lee was just very cool.  I'm gonna go with the latter by Marshall Crenshaw.

Great half-show Mike.

I have an old pair of Compaq speakers on my computer, small but very heavy and with surprisingly high sound quality.

Wait, you're back to a blown speaker?, no wonder you only half like me and my music, lol!

I too I do have a complete stereo system with all the components- the Onkyo amp, CD changer, Dual turntable, cassette player, huge speakers, even a Yamaha Minidisc player/recorder huge component (the BEST recorded yourself sound quality you can ever hear in my opinion!).

I have the stereo also hooked up to the TV, and I watch and listen to movies with their great sound almost exclusively on it now.

Late at night, speakers off...so I never use those big speakers unless I have company!

Things do change, I would have been lost too- but doesn't that further indicate our addiction to the damnable computers?

Listening in a closed car may be the best experience other than headphones, and you've got that covered.

Nope, just thru the computer with a couple fine speakers. I think I slightly blew out the left speaker and bought some new ones a week or so ago but they didn't sound like I wanted' em to sound so I went back to the old ones.

That's funny though. I do have a complete stereo system with the amp, 5 disc changer, turntable, huge speaker, etc., but it's been unplugged for over 8 years and just sits gathering dust. At home I listen to cd's via the computer, sometimes on the home theater upstairs. I have a Bose system in the car, so I'm covered there. But 15 years ago, maybe even less, I would have been LOST without a home stereo. Fascinating how things change.

And I think his version of that was surpassed by an excellent one by Robert Gordon.
He does a radio show in NYC now, 2 hours on Saturday night, and he is like me- free-form and he'll play anything.
Imelda Marcos ...HAHAHAHAHAHA!
You could be right, I never heard of her or the song!
And I've never seen "Frozen" either.
I've been meaning to ask you for a long time, what do you listen to my show on?
I would imagine with your love for music, you have a good system of speakers hooked up your computers.
Or do you listem with headphones? Or through a stereo system?

I think "Someday, Someway" was his only hit, if it could be considered a hit. I also think he was supposed to be "the next big thing", but that really didn't take off.

That "what am I missing" past was regarding the song Imelda Marcos (or whatever her name is) sung on the Oscars and how people were saying it was brilliant and the best they ever heard, etc. Yet, to me, it really sucked and she wasn't in synch with the music or vice versa and she also sounded weak. I know she has a great voice, but she wasn't that good on Sunday. Plus I've never seen "Frozen" so maybe the song really sucks anyway.

Jon,
It appears you and I remember Marshall Crenshaw, lol!
I love his song, Someday Someway.
I am only interested in Stevie Wonder at the moment IF he drops names, lol!
Yeah, I thought LRB were a little wishy washy too when they came out.
Now I like them, maybe not as much you and Scott, but I like them.
I'll ignore the filthy liar part, you nut, lol!
So you wonder about things, like can I top this?
Well, I'll try later, but you can be hard to please, lol!
And what in the hell was Travolta saying???
Now we get to this, what are you missing?
A few screws perhaps, lol?
Thanks for the listen, writing and the usual laughs,
Mike

Marshall Crenshaw? How many folks remember him? I have his first album, and it's pretty darn good.

That Stevie Wonder song kicks ass. I don't care about the name dropping, I'm just into the ass kickin'. Awesome song. Plus he drops some names!

I think this is my favorite of this set so far. LRB is ok in my book, way back when this song came out I thought they sucked, but have liked them for awhile now. I think I am the biggest LRB fan ever, Scott can claim he is but he's a filthy liar!

This was a nice mixture of old and older. Makes me wonder about things, like things I think about. I have nothing else to day. Can you top this? I don't know.

All hail Adele Dazeem!!!

And it won, yet the live version of the song completely sucked, way out of tune or something and I've never heard the song before. What am I missing?
