Classic Rock Bottom

This is the beginning of a Series done on impulse.
I have long intended to do a few shows about Baseball, but I always thought I would do it in the Spring, for Opening Day.
But after watching Derek Jeter's game-winning hit the other night, and realizing that the Playoffs start Tuesday, (there are Wild Card games for Wild Cards now, lol?). the time seemed right and this is it.
Because of the impulsive nature- unlike how I normally go about a Series, thinking of songs about a Theme and having more come to me as I play the ones I've thought of- this time I had only a few I quickly grabbed.
But by the 2nd half the ideas were flowing fast and furious!
So join me for the Top Of The First Inning.
Let's Play Ball!

RJ,
I know what you mean, I am the same way now- used to be able to name all the players and their batting average!
And I agree about Jeter- with all the temptations of NYC, he managed to keep himself clean, always hustled (I would watch him go down to first on a ground ball, he never dogged it), led by example, and just plain seemed like a nice polite man.
Hell, he could have been a pro Hockey player, lol!
And again we are in sync, when you say, I don't even know what the playoff format is now!
It appears you know your old Braves, again like me- it's the Memory of Baseball I love, not what it has become- and we all are aware of your encyclopedic Seinfeld knowledge, lol!
I had forgotten that one about George, I really have to watch those re-runs, still better than 90% of TV now.
Yes, Chalkley recorded it under the name Bruce Springstone, and when I first heard it on the radio I thought it WAS Springsteen!
Hey, Bob Newhart gets the Golden Pell- Scott gave it to him too!
Thanks for the listen and writing, real early this week, hope it was worthwhile for you,
Mike

Scott,
I was hoping to get ACDC's new track from Jon, but I don't think he has it yet.
And I may not like it!
Wow, you have that Tommy Boy dialogue down pat, lol!
I know I really laughed at that movie, always loved Chris Farley, and Spade's snarkiness always made me laugh, but I can't remember if I had stopped drinking when I saw it- stopped in 1995.
Uh...I don't know to break this to you...but the Springsteen tune really wasn't by Springsteen.
It was an imitator, calling himself Bruce SpringSTONE, lol!
Oh that's right, you sometimes give out the Golden Pell too.
And Bob Newhart gets it- can't argue with that.
Let's see who RJ gives it to.
Finally this, "What no Outfield?"
Are you trying to annoy Jon, who can be easily annoyed, lol?
Thanks for the listen and writing, always nice to get comments from you,
Mike

Jon,
You have to admit, there really is nothing bad you can say about Derek Jeter, a credit to the game...unlike say...oh A-Rod!
I don't WANT more teams in the playoffs, NO more the merrier- what the hell is wrong with you, lol?
I know, you've been hanging around with that moron Canadian, lol!
Oh I'll bet your eyes lit up when I got the Lenny Dykstra wrong...hahahaha!
It was a GOTCHA moment!
Ah, I did it from memory, and at least I remembered correctly it was Dykstra driving in the winner.
That was maybe the best game I ever saw, surpassed for pure enjoyment by possibly the Reds/Red Sox game with the Carlton Fisk home run- at least I had no rooting interest in that one and could just enjoy it for its thrilling entertainmnt.
His name is getting longer, Bruuuuuuuuuuce- had YOU in mind when I played that, lol!
Bob Newhart understatedly brilliant! Very funny guy!
Come on, let me sneak John Fogerty in when you least expect it.
Interesting show...that's it?
Yeah, you been hanging with that moron Canadian, who's now in Michigan too right, lol?
I have been so busy I haven't had a chance to challenge that clown, but a big part of me doesn't like it being on the internet- anybody can be a tough guy there, it's not honorable.
Hey, he's YOUR friend, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, just kidding with you because you are actually very funny,
Mike

Sort of typing as I listen again.  I'm no longer much of a baseball fan.  I can't name 3 players on the Braves team.  Just thought you should know that.

And you mentioned Jeter.  Of course, he is now retired, and I'm no Yankees fan, but I'm a Derek Jeter fan.  He's a stand-up guy and a great ball player.

That first full song is pretty good.  Terry Cashman and The Song Of October.  I heard Chambliss in there, and though he was once a Yankee, he played for the Braves too.  Cool dude.

I don't even know what the playoff format is now.

The Atlanta Braves won the World Series in 2005.  Should have won it in 2006, except for that darn catcher, Jim somebody or other.

Jimmy Stewart, meh.  But that made me think of a Seinfeld moment.  George wants to name his first child Seven after Mickey Mantle.  Then one of his friends steals the name for his child.  And of course, George eventually gets a job with the Yankees.  I loved that show.

The song by Tom Chalkley had it's moments, but he sounded like someone trying to sound like Bruce Springsteen.  He recorded it under the name Bruce Springstone?  Weird.

Marketing Baseball by Bob Newhart was awesome.  It get's the Golden Pell.

Play By Play was cool and so was the comparison of love to baseball by The Intruders.

Good job.

Cool!!  Finally get to hear ACDC's new track!!  ... uh, wait this sounds nothing like ACDC.  Oh well.

Tommy: Richard! Were you watching, "Spank-tra-vision?" Maybe you were watching a movie with that funny comedian! Oh, whats his name? Buddy... Whackett?
Richard Hayden: Ok, let's get some shut-eye.
Tommy: [Looks out the window] Say! That's a pretty girl down there!
Richard Hayden: Good for her.
Tommy: Gee, I wonder if she goes out with one of the Yankees!

So I'm not a baseball fan - sue me!  But I do love the movie Tommy Boy!  And its funny that when you mention Jeter that's what came to my mind.

No offense, but that Springsteen tune really underscores why I cant get into his music...

Bob Newhart gets the Golden Pell!

What no Outfiled?

Derek Jeter? Whatever.

The post season starts tomorrow (Tuesday), and it was a way to get more teams in the playoffs. Hey, I'm happy to see KC in, the more the merrier.

Nope, Lenny Dykstra did not hit a home run in that extra inning game. He hit a single which scored Wally Backman and gave the Mets a 7-4 lead, Houston scored two in the bottom of the 16th so the Mets won 7-6. That was a hell of a game, I watched that whole thing. Let's not talk about the Mookie Wilson grounder thru Buckner's legs since that brings up stupid memories.

That's funny. That sounded like Bruuuuuuuuuuce singing worse than normal. Thought it was he, but why someone would want to sound like Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce is beyond me. Wonder if he fists his geetar™ like Bruuuuuuuuuuce? Oh, like I care.

Bob Newhart. Funny guy!

No John Fogerty? Oh, and please DO NOT play The Outfield. THey had zero songs about baseball, but even if they did, it would suck.

Interesting show, that's what i have to say about this.
