ROCKOLLECTIONS: REMEMBERING GEORGE & JOHN PT.2 END

A show originally broadcast in 2006.
December 8th, 1980 was the night John Lennon died.
While most were watching Monday Night Football, I remember I was watching a hockey game (it's a BETTER game!) on TV with a buddy when the phone rang and another friend told me John was shot.
I quickly put the stereo on to WNEW-FM, then the best rock station in the world, and Vin Scelsa was playing Springsteen's "Jungleland".
My heart sank, I knew instinctively we had lost him!
In this episode, I decided to play songs ABOUT John, as a little cottage industry has sprung up regarding that.
And as it turned out, I didn't have enough time to even play what I brought to the station with me.
I remarked that there was a great shortage of songs about George Harrison or his death.
None I can think of really.
Maybe that is because it didn't come so suddenly and in such a violent fashion.
But with intentional irony, I mentioned even George had written a song for John, and of course we will open with that.
And I'll have the other usual surprises I hope you have come to expect.
Rest in peace, George and John.
We are diminished by your absence.

RJ,
Odd, but it seems people like George better than John as far as listening goes.
Ah, my staples, lol!
Always liked and remembered the Paxton tune.
Another award for the McCartney shelf, as he gets the Golden Pell, lol!
Here Today is indeed beautiful both lyrically and musically, too bad it seems to have been prettty much overlooked- and Paul's speech was really nice.
I don't think I have ever gotten around to playing  Empty Garden by Elton John.
That was as close as I ever came, and as you heard there wasn't enough time.
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Ooops...Totally forgot to say I enjoyed Paul's speech.

And, Empty Garden by Elton John is my favorite John Lennon tribute song.

Playing catch up today.  I liked this show a little better than the George show.

The first and last songs were quite cool.  Even the Paxton tune.  This show was full of staples, that's for sure.

Had a hard time deciding on the Golden Pell.  Loved Down The Road lyrically, but the McCartney tune Here Today was beautiful both lyrically and musically.  So the latter get's the Golden Pell, congratulations Mr. McCartney.

Jon,
I waited for RJ, but didn't want to keep you waiting any longer.
Sure, I could have played Queen.
Elton John too.
But I went for the ones that might have slipped by people, pretty much like I usually do.
Although I honestly didn't think of the Queen one, either in 2006 or now, it's obscure to me, lol!
Yeah, it was a pretty good idea and I used it again- I'm no dope!
Thanks for listening and writing, and glad I didn't annoy you the way I easily do, lol,
Mike

You could have played "Life Is Real (Song For Lennon)" by Queen!

I thought you were going to play songs by John Lennon, not ABOUT John Lennon. I like this better.

I do like that George Harrison song as well as the one by Mickey Hart. The rest we're ok too, nothing annoying at all! Congrats!
