Classic Rock Bottom

It happens every now and then, I sit down with a show planned and at the last moment I suddenly and inexplicably change my mind- sending me scurrying for records and CD's for the change.
That's the case here.
I just felt this urge to pay tribute to a few of the big names in Rock & Roll who passed away recently.
Although this first guy was not at all a Rocker.
I am talking about Pete Seeger, who wrote or adapted many songs that became a part of our Rock History, particularly during that Folk and Folk/Rock Revival in the 1960's.
While I am certain we would have been cordial to each other had we ever met, politically we were very different and not too compatible.
His brand of radicalism got him in big trouble, while I am still waiting for mine, lol!
But I try to separate the Art from the Artist, and the man gave us some wonderful Music.
So I will play some songs you undoubtedly know, either by him or others...songs you may not have known he had anything to do with.
This will be interesting, with a few surprises!

Maybe because there's no typing involved, just a remote control, lol!

Sounds easier to me!

Yeah, I have that channel, but never watch it. Why bother when you can get all this crap from the internet?

Ok, you're right, I did say that.

My friend has a new channel on Direct TV, it's called The Weather Nation- all the same stuff as the old one, favorite cities, etc.

So he's happy again!

Do you have that?

Of course you are not one of the Weather Channel's minions Jon, those lying bastards.

Why I oughtta...lol!

Yeah, you mentioned brand. C'mon!

"His brand of radicalism got him in big trouble, while I am still waiting for mine, lol!"

How soon we (you) forget!

Oh, and I DID get the weather forecast from The Weather Channel site. They probably figured out that I wasn't one of their stupid minions to bow down and switch cable companies and have decided to give me false weather reports just to get back at me. Today it'll probably be an ice storm and the sun will hit the earth, yet they claim it'll be sunny and in the 30's. Lying bastards!

RJ,
Oh that song by the  Byrds is a Classic!
Yes Seeger sort of wrote it, he lifted the lyrics virtually word for from the Book Of Eccliastes in the Bible.
You can look them up...IF you have a Bible, lol!
The second song was Guantanamera by the Sandpipers, a hit in 1966- and Seeger adapted that from an existing song.
Same reaction I had when I first heard Wimoweh, and I didn't know it was BEFORE The Lion Sleeps Tonight- that was part of the education I got from those old free-form FM stations.
So a bright and shiny Golden Pell for Waist Deep In The Big Muddy, a damn good song.
Now I would have given it to So Long It's Been Good To Know Yuh by the Weavers, but that's just me, lol!
I can see (and hear) the similarity of the Kingston Trio and Statler Brothers, so it's not for some strange reason.
Thanks for the listen and writing bro,
Mike

Jon,
About this, and love it when you go off like that:

Yesterday evening, I checked the weather and it said that we would get 3-6 inches overnight. What the hell is going on? The weather "experts" couldn't see the snow coming 24 hours earlier? What kind of friggin' world do we live in WHEN I CAN'T GET AN ACCURATE WEATHER FORECAST??!!

What you need is The Weather Channel, it's a good station, lol!
Did I mention a brand? Don't seem to remember that.
I know you love your heavy geetar, but if the Harry Chapin song ended with some heavy geetar, it probably wasn't him, lol!
I swear, I have already played Shirley Temple on the show.
So no- rather TWO other rockers in the next half show.
Thanks for the listen and writing...and look into that Weather Channel thing, lol,
Mike

Hey Mike, it's difficult to listen to that song by The Byrds and not wanna sing along.  Great melody and great vocals on that one.  I missed the link to Seeger.  Did he write that or something?

I'm not sure what that second song was.  It was quite weird if you ask me.  Jon probably loved it.

And the whole time I'm listening to Wamaway or whatever that was called, I was thinking of The Lion Sleeps Tonight.  You can certainly hear the connection.

If I Had A Hammer is probably a little bit too folk for my tastes.  But that's just me.

Waste Deep In The Big Muddy, now that's a cool song.  Easily my favorite "new to me" song you played today, so that one will take home a bright and shiny Golden Pell.

And I liked the follow-up almost as much (Where Have All The Flowers Gone).  That song reminded me of the Statler Brothers for some reason.

Nice show my friend.

This past Sunday, I checked the weather for the week and no snow was mentioned.

What are you waiting for? A brand? I'll brand you. Just give me an iron and a hot flame and I'll brand the crap outta you!

Nice show though, lots of music that I've heard before. Strange, the Harry Chapin song ended with some heavy geetar, at least for him.

Hopefully you're working on your Shirley Temple show? Aren't you?
