ROCKOLLECTIONS: ROCKERS IN THE MILITARY PT.2 END

A little History about this coming weekend.
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.
The Day is not about division.
It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
In my attempts to bring you our music in a slightly different way, I thought it might be interesting to give a listen to some- just some- of the Rockers who served in the Military.
In order to show no favoritism to any Branch of the Services, I will be approaching them in alphabetical order.
In this Part Two, it's the Army, Marine Corps and Navy.
I believe there will definitely be some surprises for you in these two chapters.
This will be fun, but with an accompanying amount of deserved respect.

RJ,
I think you are right about Kevin Costner in a movie about the Coast Guard, but I can't remember anything else about it, lol!
In The Still Of The Night is a great Oldie, but Del Shannon's Runaway is the one for me too.
It works on a couple of levels for a young kid growing up- rock and rebellion, lol!
Had many a lapdance with Misty Roses...lovely girl!
Seriously though, that is I think my favorite Tim Hardin song- too bad you only thought it was okay,
Been thinking about doing a show about him.
That's probably my favorite tune by Bill Withers, hadn't heard it in a long time, glad I played it.
Can't argue with the Golden Pell being presented to Mr. Kristoferson, I love that song.
When I Loved Her is him at his finest- and he is another guy I should do a show on.
And how about that Service record of his?
Thanks for the listen, and writing those insightful words that are waking me up, lol,
Mike

I liked those 2 songs you opened with.  In The Still Of The Night and Runaway, but especially Runaway.  I've always thought that was a great song.  And I've always been right.

Now, that song by Tim Hardin was okay.  I think I use to know a chick named Misty Roses, but I don't remember which establishment I met her at.

Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers is my favorite song you played for this show, but the Golden Pell is being presented to Mr. Kristoferson.  When I Loved Her is a pretty dang good song.

Hey, wasn't Kevin Costner in a movie about the Coast Guard?  Does that count?  I have this and pt. 1 of this week's show on my "to do " list today.

Jon,
I KNEW...I just KNEW there would be one guy who would ask about the Coast Guard!
I should have guessed it would be YOU, LOL!
I didn't have time in the hour, and I don't know if any Rockers actually served in the Coast Guard.
The Branches I chose are the most important ones anyway- the ones people think of right away.
Other people...hahahahaha!
Do not hold your breath waiting for Milli Vanilli.
I was actually going to mention how the all-volunteer Military has affected musicians and serving, how it seems there will be only Oldies to play for Rocker Veterans.
But it was a tight show and I didn't want to go on about it, preferring to celebrate those who did serve.
You raise a good point about the recent ones and the draft.
And I have played Glenn Miller on the show, believe it or not, lol!
Clever thinking on your part, thanks for writing...and the always laugh,
Mike

Hey, whatta 'bout the Coast Guard?

And surprised you didn't have Milli Vanilli or Terrence Trent D'arby. Well, really not surprised with MV...

Other than the ones you featured, I don't think there's anyone recent who served in the military. Guess it was different times back then (the draft, etc.). Glenn Miller was in the military too!
