ROCKOLLECTIONS: SALUTE TO RADIO- RADIO IN FILM AND TV

Nearing the Finale, the first of the last two Chapters of our Salute To Radio, I'll start with a song I only have on an old cassette from the 80's.
And it sounds it, lol!
Then a brief look, not as long as I would have liked, at how Radio has been portrayed in other Media.
In this case, Film and TV.
All leading us to the Sad Life of a DJ, and the best song ever about that.
One that had to be played, and I have no doubt some people were waiting for it, wondering why I hadn’t yet played it.
After that, a song about a Band being played on the Radio and reaching the Top Of The Pops- that will be the next direction I go in, and will carry over into the next Chapter.
There's only one more Episode to go in this Massive Theme Series.
I will be sad to see it end, and I had many songs left over.
But it ain't over till it's over, so please join me for a listen!

RJ,
4 "M" words in a row, that's called "alliteration", right?
You are quite the poet, lol!
In that first song, you probably DO know more people than you might think, for instance Scottso was Scott Muni, and HOA is Herb Oscar Anderson- of course Murray The K was in there, etc.
I have to watch American Graffiti again, for reasons unclear to me, lol!
What About Bob may play somewhat in Rockollections future.
And see, that's what makes this show so important and educational- making people aware that it was the Guess Who that did Clap For The Wolfman, lol!
The Todd Rundgren wasn't bad either- he is an interesting guy.
I was hoping I would stir some memories when I sneaked that WKRP theme in there!
Oddly, when that show was on, I was so immersed in our Music, I hardly ever watched it.
But then, I probably WOULD have viewed a serious show about a Radio Station- I was getting the itch back then.
As for WOLD and the attempted echo effect, that was just Harry Chapin being Harry Chapin, a great Storyteller in song, and not meaning the echo to be anything other than what Radio was returning to, the days of of hokey jingles again.
That's the way I've always heard it, so it doesn't bother me at all.
And the Golden Pell goes to Top Of The Pops by The Kinks.
YES!!!!
Should have been either Harry or that!
The Kinks album that is from is Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One.
Unlike their Preservation Act 1 and Preservation Act 2, there never was a Part Two for that one!
I get the message about your specifics, and I get the message...like it too, makes things easier, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, check your mailbox,
Mike

Jon,
Oh man, you are unmerciful to Springsteen and RJ.
Fits into the time period, so I possibly saw American Graffitti drunk, lol!
But I did remember that scene.
And I thought I'd sneak that WKRP in there, and it's the full song!
It wasn't a second generation cassette, I taped it off the radio during the WCBS-FM Radio Greats Weekend some time in the 80's.
And after 20 to 30 years they do degrade quite a bit.
Where else would your hearing be from...sometimes from your butt maybe, lol?
You're welcome about Bruuuuuuuuce- but I like that album.
And you'll not stop me from playing him...you bully, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, first in again,
Mike

More Monday morning music.  You do realize that's 4 "m" words in a row, right?

I definitely could not identify with that first song.  It sounded cool, but I don't know those people.  Doesn't make 'em bad people though.

Enjoyed the scene from American Graffiti.  I've never seen that movie.  But I'm a big fan of Richard Dreyfus.  He is such a good actor.  My favorite of course was Jaws, but I loved him in What About Bob?

Hadn't heard Clap For The Wolfman in ages.  I had no idea that was The Guess Who.

That's a great memory you stirred when you played the WKRP theme.  I'm pretty sure Jon is a big fan of that show.  I watched it all the time.  Would love to see some re-runs now.

The song WOLD was really good.  Except for the attempted echo effect.  I understand why it was done that way, but it really took away from an otherwise fantastic song if you ask me.  And Top Of The Pops by The Kinks was terrific as well.  What album was that on?

As for the Golden Pell, it goes to....................Top Of The Pops by The Kinks.

(Notice how I'm specific with song title and band now for GP.  You know, in case you get around to sending it).

This was nice because it washed the taste of Bruuuuuuce out of my mouth.

American Graffiti is a great movie, if nobody has seen it, they need to. Lots of recognizable actors in it.

WKRP is awesome. I will not post picture of Bailey and her total hotness.

Hey, the music was good to! I actually have all the songs you played except for the first one. Was that a second generation cassette? I don't remember factory cassettes sound that bad. Unless the hearing in my ears has changed? Where else would my hearing be from?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for wiping that Bruuuuuuuuce abomination from my mind. It is truly appreciated.
