ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE 113TH HOBOS CONVENTION PT.1

"Movin' on, movin' on, movin' on...the steam engines beckoned as they built up momentum heading towards a new horizon, towards an adventure.
Many a man heard that call, when the rules become too hard to take.
This man, born to dream not conform, that man without a job and out of luck - they heard the call, movin' on...movin' on.
Hobos they're called, a word with as many possible origins as there are reasons to join the fraternity.
The Latin words homo bonus mean "good man" and could have been coined to make the term hobo.
Some say that soldiers returning from the Civil War would be asked where they were headed and they replied "homeward bound".
Migratory agricultural workers of the eighteenth century were referred to as "hoe boys", and since hobos worked as they traveled, it was concluded they were the original 'boes.
Ask a veteran hobo at a convention jungle what a hobo is and you'll receive a definite answer. The hobo is a migratory worker, some with a special skill or trade, others ready to work at any task, but always willing to work to make his way.
The tramp, they'll tell you, is a traveling non-worker, moving from town to town, but never willing to work for the handouts that he begs for.
A bum is the lowest class, too lazy to roam around and never works."
Misunderstood and mistreated, the wandering hobos have come to find understanding and friendship in the town of Britt, Iowa- which since 1900 has been the site of the Hobos Convention.
I present the first half of our Musical Salute To Hobos!
And I ask you, who else but me would even ATTEMPT such a show, lol?

No drugs, but I SEE them!
Wow, a coincidence with RJ...will wonders ever cease, lol!

But maybe it is ME...bringing together all men and women...for a HUGE ORGY, LOL!

Oh yeah, the Indigo Girls song was incredible. No, I don't agree with Rjhog, I never read what he posts. It's just a coincidence.

No links! Lay off the drugs!

Actually, it does it to me on another site, I've just learned to never put the cursor over the highlighted word.

And say, when did words in my writing suddenly start to have LINKS with them.

Civil War?

See it?

Jon,
You dug the Indigo Girls with Ani Difranco song just like RJ?
Wow, when do you guys ever agree, lol?
Actually I've seen it happen before with my program, maybe I am a bring people together kind of guy...yeah RIGHT, LOL!
Well I wrote to RJ about that need to ratchet things up.
Guess you already know there was no death meatl, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

That Indigo Girls song as absolutely wonderful. Amazing stuff. Maybe it was just me, but this show started off with some mellow tunes and then ratcheted up. Maybe next show you'll be playing some death metal at the end!

RJ,
Wow, that's too long to repeat, but I get a chance to play Tom Paxton, I take it, lol!
In fact, I thought it would get the Golden Pell.
Maybe in Part Two- but my pick in advance is the last song I will play.
The Pell of Gold goes to The Indigo Girls w/Ani DiFranco, a very interesting choice!
The female covering a song that is sung from a man's point of view and she doesn't change that point of view, well I know Dylan had done that a number of times, Joan Baez too- hell she does it in The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
Not sure depressing is the word but certainly serious, and I liked the continuity and content of the songs.
But I realized I needed a kicker quick, and with all the mentions of rambling and ramblers in those songs I had the Allman Brothers in the back of my mind.
So I grabbed them, and man was that a jolt to the listener, lol!
But I think it worked!
That's funny, you never really listened to King Of The Road by Roger Miller.
And I had the privilege to come along and tell you the story.
ME...the Pell Master, lol!
Only bummer in there was I remembered the Delaney & Bonnie song, thought it would fit nicely in there, but I didn't remember how long it was!
I do the show in real time, so there is no going back and changing things- Free-Form is Free-Form...no net!
Thanks as always for listening and writing bro,
Mike

Jon,

You are a nut...the Jeffersons,  lol!

That was just the writing I took from elsewhere- odd because I usually write everything myself, but I went back to work yesterday and was tired.

Listen to show, don't count on the writing, lol!
