ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE AUTUMN SHOW 2014 PT.1

This Show will be broadcast Tuesday, September 23rd, the First Day Of Autumn- so another advance listen for you if you take it.
Seems unusual because we more often seem to see those Equinox changes on the 20th or 21st.
This Salute To Autumn has become a sort of annual tradition at Rockollections.
And rather than play he same Songs over and over, I always try to dig out ones you haven't heard in a long time, or maybe never have heard.
Autumn Songs tend to be thoughtful, contemplative, almost wistful (the Fall season seems to encourage that).
In any case, I hope you enjoy this Musical Excursion through what is becoming my Favorite Time Of Year.

RJ,
I wouldn't call them gloomy, but like I wrote Jon, because it's the end of Summer fun, Autumn Songs tend to be thoughtful, contemplative, almost wistful.
And I like them, they're seasonally right.
I started out mellow, and paced the songs that way because it felt right, picking it up and going sort of mellow again.
Plus as I have said before, I try not to repeat songs from previous years very often- many many times I will play a song and you will never hear me play it again!
I opened with The Edgar Winter Group because its title was simply Autumn- that's the main reason and seemed like a good, easygoing way to begin.
And it ends up winning the Golden Pell, lol!
I figured there would be many tunes here you had never heard, so I was stumped as to what you would pick.
I was secretly hoping that was one, along with Fairport Convention, Small Faces and Stone Poneys.
Always loved apple picking on a nice Fall day, although I would come home with tons of apples!
Be making apple bread, pies, cobbler, etc. for weeks if not months, lol!
That does sound like one of Jon's stories.
Thankfully he's raking leaves and can't see this, lol!
And another one of my Mike Pell Moments Of Clarity- it will taste just as good with just 20 minutes of polishing, LOL!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Jon,
I LOVE Autumn cause it means Winter is coming!
Not using the air conditioner is a moneysaver.
I used to really like the smell of burning leaves when I left the city, but now so many places have banned that.
Jesus, remember when we used to live in a free country?
Just a coincidence we both played Steve Forbert, or a meeting of great minds, lol!
With the end of Summer fun, most writers treat Autumn as not upbeat.
I see RJ stating the same thing.
As I wrote, Autumn Songs tend to be thoughtful, contemplative, almost wistful.
So that's what I played, although I am SURE you can give me a list of Heavy Metal songs about Autumn, LOL!
Yeah, for those people on the other side of the world, it's Spring
That IS stupid, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

He's too busy racking leaves.

Funny, last week I thought the subject was gloomy but the songs were upbeat.  This week, it's more like an upbeat subject (cause I like Autumn too), but most of the songs seemed to have a very gloomy sound.  At least until you played Al Kooper.  Then it picked up for two songs, before going kinda gloomy again on Autumn Of My Madness.

So, the best song for me, and the Golden Pell winner was the opener.  I've never listened to the Edgar Winter Group, but that was a cool song.

Now, for a story.  Your photo of the apple made me think of this.  When I was younger, early teens at the oldest, I went to Virginia to visit my Aunt.  Her husband's family owned an apple orchard.  That orchard stays in my memory because I just loved it.  And there was even a river that ran through it.  But my story is about an apple that I took with me from that orchard.  I remember riding in the front seat of the family car, no seat belt of course, polishing that apple with a rag.  I must have polished it for 3-4 hours at least.  Then I ate it.  And it was the best apple ever.  My point is, if you polish your apple for 3 or 4 hours with a rag, it will taste better than it does if you don't polish it (doesn't this sound just like one of Jon's stupid stories?).

I like autumn. You save money on heat and ac because it's not too warm or too cold. The only issue are leaves, but the lawnmower can handle them fine. I no longer believe in racking leaves. Too much work.

Steve Forbert! Interesting. Watch out, some silly people might claim collusion.

ALl these songs were pretty good, but I consider autumn to be more upbeat. For some people it's spring, but they're stupid.

Nice show!
