ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE BRITISH INVASION PT.1

50 years ago on Feb. 7th 1964, the Beatles arrived at Kennedy Airport here in New York, marking the beginning of Beatlemania and The British Invasion.
Also making a whole lot of people feel very old this week, lol!
As it happened, I didn't like their first single but I did like the flip side.
And I never suspected that these 4 guys would be responsible for my lifelong love of Music!
Without the Beatles, I don't get nearly as deep into the Music as I have- Music before them, Music after them.
Call them the Fab Four, the Moptops, the Lads From Liverpool, etc.
I call them The Greatest Group That Ever Existed!
And of course, regarding that British Invasion, they weren't alone.
These Brit groups and artists had a fresh sound, giving a jolt to a too long stale and formulaic Rock & Roll scene here in the States.
It's a cliche, but you had to be there.
I invite you to join me for a listen to songs you will know, and some you may not, that after all these years hold up very well indeed!

RJ,

You mean you didn't take part in the old Rebellion, like the Rebel me, lol?

We stopped shooting redcoats and have new people to shoot now!

You know, if you hadn't mentioned that I had "three bands with "& the" in the title Also, three bands that start with "The"", I never would have noticed.

That's why I regard you as my fact-checker, lol!
And I do believe I insanely messed up a date in Part Two!

Well you don't HAVE the British Invasion without The Beatles.

And I was gonna play the next hit by The Kinks, but there is a story involving The Doors, so I'll save it.

The old Classic Pell to The Searchers for Needles And Pins, or Needles And PinZA...you catch tha toot, lol?

Good pick!

They grew, and did some excellent folkie choices later on.

Thanks for the listen and writing,

Mike

It may come as a surprise to some, but I was not alive during the first British Invasion.  And I was alive for part of the second one, but I don't remember shooting any redcoats.  But seriously, this was a good listening experience.  A nice collection of songs, mostly songs I am familiar with.

I did notice you had three bands with "& the" in the title.  Also, three bands that start with "The".  Also, two staples in The Beatles and The Kinks.

I'm going with a Classic Pell for this one...The Searchers for Needles And Pins.  Cool song.

But why then did you mention Georgy Girl?

Maybe I'll play it next week.

The Searchers, Megadeth, drugged Beatles and PSH all coming together in your little world.

That's one scary place, for meshing put up a mesh fence, lol!

I have no idea where that Georgy Girl came from, other than it's British. No clue.

Interesting is that The Searcher's song isn't about drugs (I don't think), but the Megadeth one is, I like drugged Beatles and PSH supposedly od'd on heroin. Weird how everything kinda meshed, at least in my little world.

Jon,
I like it all, the Beatles grew up and we grew up with them.
The cool part was it was like 2 different groups.
With your extensive rap sheet, it is easy to see why you would PRE-fer the more druggie music, lol!
The Beatles influenced EVERYONE, from hairstyles to dressing.
And while many artists were influenced by that Kinks song, and you know how much I love the Kinks, Music itself was changed by the Beatles.
You know, I could do an hour show very week for the next 10 years with just artists doing Beatle songs and not break a sweat!
That's the Searchers Needles and Pins in there at the beginning isn't it?
It IS nice of you to give a Megadeth song- I think that's the first time I've ever listened to them...so thanks, lol!
Eating your twin...man, it's an adventure reading your stuff...hehehehe!
I don't know about back then, but you couldn't turn music on or off like you can now.
And you are certainly kinda alive now, making people crazy along the way, lol!
I didn't play Georgy Girl! So say what back?
Not bad for me, you liked everything but the Beatles- so 9 out of 12.
But the drug thing, how abouy that Hoffman guy?
He's got money fame awards, a family...and he's so unhappy he needs to shoot up?
What the f--- does it take to please some people?
Thanks for the listen, and your special writing, lol,
Mike

Still not big into the pre-druggie Beatles. Still don't like pre-Rubber Soul stuff from the Beatles. That's just pre-me I guess. Pre-posterous? Pro-bably.

Yeah sure, the Beatles influences a few artists, I guess if you have to say so. Amazing how many artists were influenced by that Kinks song.

The first time I can recall hearing that Needles and Pins song was here:

Maybe I heard it  before, maybe not. But when it started playing on this show, I expected it to turn into a Megadeth song. Wonder how people heard that song, at least a part of it, just because of Megadeth?

Hey, I was technically alive on 2/7/64! Probably eating my twin in the womb because there could only be one of me. But kinda alive!

Hey there Georgy girl? Say what?

Interesting show in that I liked everything but the Beatles. You probably expected that, no? Plus I gave you a Megadeth song! That's so nice (of me).
