ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUND IS WOR-FM PT.2

This Series was originally broadcast in the Summer of 2011, so kindly add 4 years to all dates I say.
As the 49th Anniversary of WOR-FM's July 30th 1966 debut on the air approaches, I'll continue with some fun old Airchecks and Music ONLY from 1967 and Before.
And I know there are radio freaks like myself who LOVE those old airchecks.
In many cases they bring back happier times just as much as Music does!
The strike was settled, and the DJ's began on Oct. 8th 1966...a Saturday...very odd!
They were feeling their way around as most of us would starting a new job, probably not aware of their iconic status as Firsts.
Scott Muni and Murray the "K" in particular had to re-invent themselves, not be the Top 40 people they were remembered as.
They did so very nicely, and by the time I got an FM Radio were almost totally different- much more likable, laid back and friendly.
And they played music AM Radio wouldn't go near!
Enjoy the memories, or make some new ones!

Jon,
You may like that If I Were A Carpenter song, but Tim Hardin wasn't exactly thrilled with it.
Tim wrote it and originally recorded it, almost exactly the same arrangement that Darin copied.
It could have been the same instrumental track and vocal style, so Tim was not pleased he didn't have a hit with his own song and Darin did!
I'll play them back to back, or at least Tim's version someday.
I remember Robert Plant's version, don't know if I have it.
Hey I just pick 'em- if the music got harder as this show went on, that was just the flow at the time.
Glad you think playing the harder tunes with the mellower tunes is cool.
But songs flowing together, that's what I TRY FOR, LOL!
I mean think about it, when I do a Theme that's precisely what I want!
I'd play Christopher Cross followed by Black Sabbath.
And be proud of it, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

I like that carpenter song, but everytime I hear it, I think of Robert Plant's version. All the versions I've heard are good because it's such a great song, but after hearing this I wanna grab RP's version.

Kinda funny (to me at least), the music got harder as this show went on. But playing the harder tunes with the mellower tunes is so cool. Keeps you on your toes, especially if they don't flow together. To hell with songs flowing together, that's just stupid. I've mentioned this before (I think) but I still remember one of the FM stations playing Christopher Cross followed by Black Sabbath in the early 80's. So different, but I thought it was the coolest thing.

Oh well, nice show!
