ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUNDS OF NEW ORLEANS PT.2 END

I'll open this last half of our Road Trip to New Orleans with a short musical History Lesson about events almost exactly two hundred years ago!
I'll have a guy who was a child prodigy, writing his first song at age 8.
The funniest song here is by another guy who could sing like a girl...and a frog, lol!
Earning himself a nickname in the process.
I'll finally get around to playing one by a female solo singer- I hadn't noticed how top-heavy New Orleans was in that department, loaded with guys.
But for me, the centerpiece of this half hour is the very first song I ever heard by Dr. John back in 1968.
Back when he was known as the Night Tripper.
If you have heard it, maybe you'll remember how mindblowing it was on that first listen...and many listens afterward.
If you have never heard it, well they are not at all necessary, but mind-altering substances can only enhance it, lol!
We'll walk out of the city, and undoubtedly take another of these Road Trips in the future.
Enjoy!

It just occurred to me I meant Orleans, the band, nothing to do with New Orleans.

And The Band is the name of that band.

Good luck RJ, I am having my own difficulties here, lol!
You know, I have better results with other mp3 players than those damn expensive iPods.

Hey, I know those two songs too.  But that's all I remember, though I do remember the band.  I'm positive my cousin had the vinyl.

I downloaded the show last night so I could listen on my iPod, but somehow it didn't transfer.  I'm gonna try to listen at work this afternoon.

Man they are GOOD!

Sounds like a combination of Poco, Orleans & The Band...with a little Dan Fogelberg thrown in!
I thank you,

Mike

Hey Mike!  Heres a couple of N.O. related tracks from LeRoux (formerly known as Louisianas LeRoux)

First track is "Take A Ride On A Riveboat" and then "New Orleans Ladies".  You'll find that a certain few on this site know these quite well  (hint:  his name starts with a "J" and ends with "onster")

Scott,
What was the opener?...oh, I got it now.
Can you imagine the fun they must have had during that Frogman recording session?
The Golden Pell for Walking to New Orelans, that's an excellent choice.
And you did beat RJ, lol!
But I hope somebody digs the Dr. John song as much as I always have.
Yes, hearing those older songs now and then is always fun for me.
I may have said this before, but I have reached a point where anything I have never heard before, no matter what year it is from, is NEW to me!
And probably a helluva lot better than much of the music I hear today!
Louisiana's LeRoux...no I don't have that...never heard of it or them.
See what I mean?
When I do hear it, it will be NEW, lol!
Thanks as always for the listen and the writing, and particularly the great show pat on the back,
Mike

I knew the opener but thats about it.  Love the historical lesson though.  That Frogman info is very cool!

Finally!  A song I know...  hahahaha!  Walking to New Orelans, has to be the golden pell!  *I liked beating RJ to this!

For me the tunes in here a little older than I would normally listen to, but I like hearing the influences that shaped the music later.

Also, I thought maybe we woudl hear a little Louisiana's LeRoux, specifically New Orleans Ladies, a fine fine tune and big hit down there for years!  Do you have that?

Great show Mike!
