ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SPRING SOUNDS OF BIRDS

I guess I am Celebrating Spring...for those who like it!
One of the most noticeable things about Spring is the Sounds of Birds singing again.
As you well know, they migrate South for the Winter.
And the Swallows do indeed Return To Capistrano, all the way from back from Argentina.
That's some trip!
So that's what we are dealing with in this Chapter.
Both Artists and Birds Singing- as the Earth brings this Northern Hemisphere back around to a Season of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth.
In other words, Spring!
Sing along...and if you can't sing, Whistle like A Bird, lol!

Oh, so you could pick up those stations.

Too bad though, I figured next time you pissed me off I could track you down, LOL!

I grew up in New Jersey.

Your descent eh, lol?

Jon, those stations you mentioned, do you live in New York?

When I was young, on Saturday nights I used to listen to Bing Band night on an FM station out of New Jersey I believe. I think it was WDHA? I have to look for a card I got from them for some promotion or something, but then they changed format and no more Big Band Music, they went to AOR and then my descent into hell began with them, WPLJ and WAPP.

Jon,
Welcome back from the doldrums...out near the marshes & dunes, lol!
And that now-cool start with Glenn Miller got me in your book, filed under Aces!
You actually wrote this:

Everything else I've heard, and I liked it just fine

Not sure many people would feel it would be really cool if I did an ALL BIG BAND SHOW- not even me.
But I might someday do one with more contemporary artists doing those old songs.
Now a series of shows that are for the birds, that idea has been in the back of my head for years!
And yeah baby...show these young whippersnappers what REAL music is all about...I am ALWAYS trying to do that, lol!
I gotta be honest, I agree with you and ganja-free too, Three Little Birds really doesn't have much to do with Birds at all.
But I thought of it and had the urge to play it...so I did!
That's the way I go most times...with the flow!
And if you thought the title was "Every Little Thing Is Going To Be Alright", one good reason is he says it often enough, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing, more Spring to come so hang with me too,
Mike

RJ,
The Staples eh?
Well lately I've been on a Van Morrison kick, but then I may not play him again for a year.
For the Beatles that would be highly unlikely, lol!
But you do have a point, even though the Staples may change, as well as their frequency.
Interesting, the Golden Pell to Glenn Miller!
I would have given it to Van, lol!
But you and Jon, and quite a few other people have written me about liking that Glenn Miller opening.
Now THAT was a risk, lol!
Maybe it shows how starved folks are for something, anything, different on the radio!
Yeah, see an old movie, an old BLACK & WHITE movie- they're good too!
Spealing of movies, Lovin' You and Vegas Vacation...man, you do know your comedies.
I wouldn't have thought of that without you mentioning it, lol!
For that chapter, Rockin' Robin was my ace in the hole.
But for pure thoughtful creativity, I was most proud of the set with birds singing in the songs.
I am a fan of Bob Marley, like him a lot.
But he is not on a pedestal.
And although I would/will play him again, I doubt he will become a Staple, lol!
That reminds me...gotta go to Staples...and gotta love them!
Thanks for the listen and writing, more Spring to come so hang with me bro,
Mike

Ok, I liked this., Start of with Glenn Miller? Aces in my book! Everything else I've heard, and I liked it just fine. For a show for the birds, this was darn good. Would be really cool if you did an ALL BIG BAND SHOW. Show these young whippersnappers what REAL music is all about.

The Bob Marley song...I was trying to figure out why you included it, because I always though the titles was "Every Little Thing Is Going To Be Alright" for some reason. Probably because I wasn't on the ganja when I was listening today and when I've ever listened to this song? But what does this have to do with birds anyway, outside of the title?

I've got a new feature for Rockollections:  The Staples...You have some "staple" artists that you play on a regular basis, so I feel the need to check these off in each episode.  For this show, I've got Van Morrison and the ever present Beatles.

And this will surprise you, but I'm giving the Golden Pell to Glen Miller.  I've never heard about the Swallows, but that's a cool song.  Made me wanna see an old movie.

Minnie Ripperton, at least Lovin' You, always makes me think of Vegas Vacation when Wayne Newton is singing that song and Mrs. Griswald hits that high note.  Priceless.

Haven't heard Rockin' Robin  or Grooving in a while.  Like 'em both.

The only one that I didn't care for was Bob Marley.  I'm just not a fan.

Nice show though.  Gotta love those staples.
