ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL2- NAMEDROPPING PT.1

I'll begin this Episode with a mischievous false start- I mean come on, I'm a mischievous guy, lol!
Then it's a return to some Namedropping- been well over a year since I last did that.
That's when a song contains a mention in the lyrics of a Musician, a Group, a Movie Star, a Politician...any one or any thing famous and well-known.
The first song is a Roll Call...a Rock & Roll Call.
A song so terrific, and mentioning so many Singers and Groups, once you hear it you'll never forget it!
After that, I'll go my merry way with my own peculiar selections, all meeting the qualifications of the chosen Theme.
One thing we should have learned over the years, Rock & Roll has never been shy about referencing itself!
See how many you can catch, and do enjoy!

RJ, I have a hard time picking THE favorite, but that would be one of them for Sedaka, as well as both earlier and later stuff.

While I like them, The Smithereens are NOT my favorite band, LOL!

My favorite Sedaka song is Bad Blood. You could play that when you do your Blood And Roses show, you know, the one that features The Smithereens (both yours and Scott's favorite band).

RJ,
Well right off the bat, the Golden Pell to Willie Nile for History 101.
The thing I noticed was how beautifully it segued in from the previous song- the guitar coming in on the left speaker and rocking!
Occasionally we disagree, as good as the Willie Nile was, I would have given the Pell to Joe D'urso & Stone Caravan for Rock & Roll Call.
The Chubby Checker song was a rarity, strangely good.
And the Neil Sedaka was seemingly out of character for him with a song about a groupie, I had a vague memory of the song so I looked for it.
And voila, it made the show, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing,
Mike

Jon,
I had the feeling when I played it back that no one will have ever heard any of these songs.
Kinda carried over to the 2nd half too.
But I was playing too many hits lately, lol!
Nah, I just go where it takes me.
Anything stand out for you?
For me, it was Joe D'urso & Stone Caravan with Rock & Roll Call.
Love that song!
And THIS is what I enjoy about you, "the second time I listened to it I realized I HAD heard all the songs before. Kind of weird that the first time I listened the songs weren't familiar but the second time they were. How is that even possible?"
Jeez Jon, I've thought about it and can't figure that out...amazing really, LOL!
Thanks for the listen and writing, you're a pisser,
Mike

Yep, good show. Golden Pell to Willie Nile for History 101 and the way cool guitarsmanship.

Also liked the Chubby Checker song and the Neil Sedaka song.

Interesting show since I don't believe I have ever heard any of these songs before. I had to check it twice, but the second time I listened to it I realized I HAD heard all the songs before. Kind of weird that the first time I listened the songs weren't familiar but the second time they were. How is that even possible?

As you think about that, I must say it was a good show.
